Jay, all I want is the discontinued Data Viper and Kwinn.

Wait, they held it off because of the movie line? Oops! :verymad:

Kwinn did. The Data-Viper was scrapped because its tooling costs were too high.

But seriously, POC Flint? I have no recollection of that. When was it announced? Are there pics?

You don't throw away multi millions in advertising, unless something is very wrong, and something cannot be released.

I might even bet, something might be going on with a struggle between Hasbro and Paramount power. We had issues with ROC in regards to licensing, now we have a huge delay...after the commercial failure of BS.

typical re-shoot, is generally 9-months... and you can shoot the whole thing in 3D first, instead of spending, about 30Million to convert.

just saying... I work in the industry, you don't halt a movie for 9 months, for time slot.

This all rings true, I can't remember a reschedule this late in the game. And Battleship is a flop with $30m domestic (but it recouped its budget overseas).

POC Flint (and shipwreck) were announced in a press release last year (joecon, I think), then never materialized. Notpicard and gyre-viper have discussed this on their podcast. Apparently night-viper and CG were very close to the Retalliation toys we saw.

I was guessing Flint would show up as a late 2012 figure to transition from Ret to standard joe style/next media. I hypothesize DG shipwreck is a simplified version of the POC concept.

Yeah, that was my thought as well: they're basically doubling the amount they spent on advertising by pushing back so far. They'll be effectively starting from scratch as far as building anticipation for the movie. It's hard to believe that there isn't more to the delay than just wanting to add post 3D: it's not like the industry-wide 3D push happened in the last few months, so they've had plenty of time to think about it; plus, the amount of added revenue brought in by offering it in 3D would have to be measured against the post-conversion cost (expensive as hell) and the second round of marketing.

But it'll be just as easy to not see in March as it would have been in July. What I'm really curious about is the toyline and its immediate future, and I'm sure we'll be waiting a while to find out what the plans are for that.

I agree, it's a better slot for the movie. An the positive buzz the movie's generated so far will keep other films away from it -- at least paramount will hope.

But toywise, this seems a major debacle.

1. Will retailers continue to order product after this news?

2. Will Hasbro retool the packaging moving forward?

3. Could the dollar general toys be moved into mainstream retail to fill shelves for the summer?

4. Will we ever get the POC night-viper, CG and Flint?

5. Saddest Joecon ever?

#3 or maybe they will push leftover RoC!
#4 See those shouldn't be any problem since they weren't movie related.
#5 saddest or :angrymob:

The Data-Viper's body has been done as some other figure I forget which exactly.

Hasn't yet, but I believe it's going to Airborne in the second wave of Retaliation 3-packs, with Mouse and... Grunt?

well this actually happens a lot in the movie biz. Just not with a summer "blockbuster".

I am willing to bet battle ship has a lot to do with it. The number crunchers will consider Joe and battleship in the same category and are probably considering that this particular category is dying. If there were any major issues with pre screening then that would have just added to it. I have heard form somewhere that there were at least a couple of recent scene shoots to make certain parts of the story more understandable to the audience. That smells bad to producers. RoC's success wasn't all that it was hyped to be either. So couple those factors and the studio is afraid they have a turkey. Avengers will most likely linger on screens longer than planned, and Batman will most likely do worse than planned. So the big studios are in for a weird non status Q summer. Hopefully we'll see a ticket price knock down by next year.

There is already some buzz in the insider mags about Super hero movies being "out". The last article I read on it specifically suggested that everyone leave it to marvels studio or leave it alone.

Anyway it is too bad Hasbro doesn't think various GI Joe properties can work together to promote each other, then there'd always be joes on a shelf and maybe even a cartoon on television.

Yeah that's the one. I'm sure its way past the planning stages at this point.

My question is if they are worried about how the movie will perform, why are they putting another $30 mil (estimated) into it to convert it to 3D? If it's a bad movie in 2D, it will be a bad movie in 3D, and will have cost even more to make.

Brilliant marketing there.

My thoughts exactly.

Here I was going to give Hasbro credit for having all of its ducks in a row for the first time since the 80s with decent product on the shelves at the same time a decent-looking movie is hitting theaters.

Their timing for RoC was not abyssmal, but the movie was and that peg-warming first wave of product was lackluster at best.

Now they've gone and sabotaged themselves -- again.

And I promise fanboys will take flak for "Not supporting the line."

This, I fear, signals the imminent end of Joe at retail for what will likely be a good long stretch.

Look guys, we're all upset, but let's not go crazy. No one thinks Amazing Spider-Man is going to be huge.

At this point I'm not entirely certain that would be a bad thing. Hasbro has had a horrible track record lately with actually getting toys into the hands of people who want them. I stopped looking at the Hasbro cases at the convention because half the stuff in them would never see the light of day, or go to some store 500 miles away from where I live. Add the this the farce that the GIJCC has become I find myself trying to come up with reasons why I should still be collecting.

Right now it's mainly the people here who keep me coming back, and they're the reason I am still intending on going to the convention, which will be my last. GI Joe has become a shadow of it's former self, and maybe a few years off will make people realize what a great line it was....and could be again.

Just my opinion.
