The Vermont
Street Battle was a bloody ordeal which lasted three days and resulted
in the death of every Council soldier, save for a sparse few, 430 Cobra
soldiers, and 622 civilians. The battle began as an operation of the
Council (which numbered nearly 300) to ambush a party of Cobra officers,
passing through Fyoran Avenue. Several Councilmen altered the course
of an APC carrying the high Cobra officials onto Vermont Street, where
other terrorists were waiting. The APC was easily destroyed, but the
street was immediately blockaded and a firefight quickly ensued. More
and more reinforcements came for both sides and a battle raged for three
days, destroying the urban neighborhood and causing extreme damage to
the Cobra army stationed in the city. The Councilmen reinforcements
were able to enter the street through the sewage pipeline system, where
they also were able to plant remote detonated mines should the Cobra
soldiers defeat them. Eventually, after Councilmen numbers dropped to
less than 20, and Cobra Corps Stormtroopers were flowing through the
streets, a Councilman detonated the mines, resulting in a tremendous
number of casualties. Few survived the explosion; Ragnarok did.
Ragnarok
joined the GI Joe team through the underground. He has immediately been
recognized as a fierce soldier born to be a warrior, despite his eerie
calm in all situations. He still wears the robes of a Councilman officer,
as a reminder to all that he has been warring Cobra his entire life.
