The Vulcan Standard Infantry was established around the year 2100 and for seven decades served as Cobra's primary infantry. However, in the year 2175, a large contingency of Vulcan Infantry was slaughtered by a smaller, yet superior, Japanitronix force in Cobra's failed invasion of eastern Asia. Approximately 15,000 infantrymen were killed or missing after the series of battles before CobraCorps finally withdrew their men and transported them back to Cobra territory.

The overwhelming defeat led to discussions for a new type of infantry. In 2182, a vote among CobraCorps military officials ratified research to be done to improve the quality of Cobra infanry. At first, two better rifles were introduced which were lighter and more efficient than the customary Block-4a Tusk Rifles (pictured to the left). Then, in 2189, a stronger armor was introduced which could absorb an extraordinary amount of fire from enemy guns. The new armor and new weapons were combined to form the current Cobra Infantry: the Stormtroopers.

Despite the Stormtroopers' rise to preeminence among Cobra ranks, some Vulcan Infantry have been assigned to defensive positions in Sector A, a relatively large yet unvolatile area of what was known as South America. Vulcan soldiers have proven to be perfect tools to quell small uprisings or merely to intimidate opposing soldiers. However, the Vulcans are slowly fading away into obscurity as they have been usurped by both Stormtroopers and Perennis Shocktroops as standard armored soldiers.
