Hey guys just saw over on TNI, Mattel is doing 3 3/4" Speed Racer figure 2 packs. Looks like they will also have vehicles to go with them! Guess this means Clutch will get to drive the Mach 5!!

Finally there's images at least. Last time this was mentioned there wasn't much to go on. Looks like Mattel stuck to their crappy 1960's way of making figures too and went with neck, hip, and shoulder rotation joints only. Yay, they're so ground breaking in their designs! The vehicles will be cool though and I'll probably modernize the figures by giving them real articulation.

Looks like these 2 2packs and the full-sized Mach 5 are all that's 18th scaled to me. The other cars with figs look like P-Shop mock-ups of MASK-scaled figs. Anyway, since it's from Mattel, I won't be getting my hopes up for much.

I HATE Speed Racer and have no affection whatsoever for the characters. But I look at those figures and see some really great parts. Speed's jumpsuit alone holds great promise.

Or at least it would if they weren't articulated like something out of a late 70s knockoff line. There's this great new thing called elbow joints guys.

I guess I've been out of the loop on this one because I didn't even KNOW there was a Speed Racer movie in the works. Is it live action?

At the risk of making a bad joke here, can you imagine casting that kid brother that was always sneaking along in the Mach 5? "Requirements of child actor: Must be able to hide in car trunk with live monkey..."

Of course, this is Hollywood. That might not be all that hard to find...

I was hoping they would be based on the cartoon and not the movie...
At least they're the right scale, but the articulations is way out dated.

The rapper looking guy with gold chains might be a good Headman henchman though. I might get that pack and set up a ninja vs gangsta scene....

It looks like the toys run the scale range from hotwheels cars sized to 1:6 for some of the figs.
I'd love a Mach 5, but I'll wait til I see them in the stores.
