I love the level of detail and functionality here.

Only thought would be maybe try drawstrings at the collar? The buttons feel a little too neat/now maybe?

I hate to agree becuase I like the look, but just removing the buttons might be better. I think of A Knight's Tale and while that was far from historically or fantastically accurate, there were very few buttons.

Good idea fellas. This better? Only downside I see is adding the string makes me wish I’d used this torso for my Lone Ranger

That looks great, the buttons didn't bother me but the update is definitely more accurate to the period

You added washes to everything, including faces, but without overdoing it.

I always feel like I'm ruining a paint job when I do washes on flesh areas, even if it turns out fine.

What's your approach?

thanks fellas. I didn't hate the buttons either, but I like the change here as the buttons make it feel slightly more like a western shirt.

pn - thanks on the paint comments. the approach for me is about different shades and layers. I don't just apply wash and move on.

depending on the head when I start, I either begin with the flesh color already on the head, or for casts apply an Army Painter flesh primer spray. Then I pretty much go straight to washes (maybe eyes first I guess). I use thin red wash around mouth and corners of the eyes. Pretty direct application so it's not a traditional broad strokes wash application. then depending on the look I'm going for I pick light or dark brown washes, and hit the creases of the face sculpt.

you can always wipe off excess, but I find that usually wipes off what I want to stay also. so for me, once that is dry I get paint on flesh tones, which is a lighter shade than the primer I use, and I hit the highlights of the face with it, as well as covering up any of the wash that got away from me.

did that make sense?

Yes, it sounds like you take a 2D approach (as if you're painting an illustration on a canvass), but wrap it over a 3D item, if I understand it correctly. I will give that a try.
