Scramble wrote an interesting article about the diversity of the GI Joe line, both historically, and the upcoming lineup vs other "boys toys" lines.

Great article! Nice work, Scramble! :like:

I'm still scratching my head over this line, though: "GI Joe was a monkey in a judo-trained chimpanzee..." Uhm... what? :-/

But, again, superb story and glad to see Joes are soldiering on in many different ways! :-D

A very interesting article that was worth the time I spent reading it . Well done Scramble.

GI Joe's diversity is why I'm still a fan 30+ (! Crikey !) Years later and why I'm on this board despite not having bought a joe figure at retail in years. It wasn't that I was LOOKING for diversity or a particular type of character in my favourite toy line . GI Joe simply had characters that looked like me and all of my friends in addition to great poseability and designs for the time .

It's also why GI Joe won the toy war against transformers (no human element), He Man (lack of poseability and low ethnic diversity ) and star wars (same as He Man) in my house. All of Joe's cast of characters looked like the people I interacted with as a kid . Even shirtless Gung Ho lol

At the very least, looking at the photos in this article, I can see why some people have said that the heads of the new female figures look too small. I'm still not sure I agree with this, as the female figures overall are distinctly smaller in height and build than the male figures. The heads do look a bit small, but might be okay given the overall size and proportions of the figures. And these could well be prototypes. I suppose we'll see when they actually arrive in the stores.
