Hasbro will release an exclusive Micronauts 3-pack at SDCC.
The set will feature repros of three classic figures.

Not what I was expecting, but cool nonetheless.

It is a solid idea to get something out there. Not sure how much interest there will actually be considering there are tones of vintage Micronauts on ebay going for far cheaper than that set will be.

Yup, just what every 40-year-old that doesn't have access to ebay to get any of the 40yo original Takara figures, the 35yo original Mego figures, the 20yo Takara reissues, or the 15yo Palisades repros has been dreaming of. Thank Dallan and Sepsis Hasbro went through all that trouble to work out the rights issues for the Marvel Micronauts toy and comic collectors have been clamoring for in toy form since the Carter Administration, because it sure looks to have paid off magnificently.

/and a shiny new box, too!

Please, those Palisades repros were some of the most godawful things ever rendered in plastic. I don't think I'd ever encountered toys before that self-destructed before you could even take them out of their packages.

Heard about these today. Already interested in the G.I. Joe/TF set, and the ThunderCats two-pack of WilyKit and WilyKat from Mattel. As soon as I saw these, my first thought was -- Well, there goes the summer budget...

Oh, no! Now we only have three other entire collections of the exact same product to choose from! Whatever shall collectors do except fight over exclusives that are in no way, shape, or form what the vast majority of fans were hoping for when Hasbro announced they'd acquired the rights 7 years ago? But at least those years haven't been wasted by incompetents, based on what they're offering us!

From what I saw the packaging is just a box with the art on it. Not sure how the figures will be packaged inside. Probably simple blister cards but they might surprise us with something like the Kre-O Slaughter set from last year.

Hey, I'm not complaining about these new ones. I picked up a couple of repros -- honestly not sure from which collection -- a few years ago that were almost as poorly made as the Palisades ones. They didn't self-destruct, but they also couldn't stand up or hold a pose worth a darn, either. And trying to find any of the Mego or Takara originals -- in good shape -- would be far more of a challenge, and likely a costlier one for really good specimens, than this set.

I'm not sure what you mean by "no way, shape, or form what fans were hoping for from Hasbro". Honestly, I didn't have any particular expectations whatsoever.

If you didn't hope for the Marvel Micronauts to *finally* get figures, then I'm not really sure what you're a fan of. Sure, the original toyline was amaze-balls for 40+ years ago, but there's really nothing there until Mantlo created the Microverse story.

Glossed over the awesome news of Visionaries Leoric Mighty Mugg.

That's fans of that short lived toy line had always been hoping for....the first series characters in super-deformed vinyl form. Right?

I can't imagine that we'd EVER get figures of the Marvel characters. The rights to that must be a complete fiasco.

I collected many of the Micronauts action figures when they first came out, and I enjoyed the comic book. But the differences between the two were so great that I never tried to draw that much of a connection, and I liked both.

Those original Micronauts, with one exception, did not survive to the present day. I'm pleased with the opportunity to regain them, in what I would think would be a decent quality form, unlike the Palisades junk.

And yeah, that Visionaries thing is a bit odd. On the one hand, I'm astounded that they'd give any attention to the concept. And I gave to give them credit for using the original logo, and -- within the Mighty Muggs format, certainly producing a suitably accurate likeness of Leoric.

But, if one doesn't collect Mighty Muggs, which I do not, that's about as far as it goes. It's cool for what it is, and I'm impressed that Visionaries are back even like this, but -- ookay.

The Marvelnauts' rights are owned by either Hasbro or Marvel, and considering their years-long close relationship the idea that Hasbro couldn't make a toyline of them is ludicrous. I'm thinking that whoever is in charge of the brand now is likely from the generation that missed the comic and so didn't even try to get the Marvel characters because he had no connection to them.

I just don't see it that way. Clearly, the intent here is to do a retro set. That's going to mean doing Micronauts as they appeared as toys -- and hopefully with better quality than the last couple attempts.

And now that I think about it, the only one I owned of these three back in the day was Pharoid. Somehow, I missed the other two. (Granted, Tucson's toy market at that time stunk.) So, while I no longer have my original Micronauts collection, this still represents a chance to get a couple of classic Micronauts, newly-made, for that matter, that I never owned in the first place.

Time to start saving some $$.

I really doubt Hasbro would even want to do the Marvel Micronauts. They didn't buy that brand so that they could promote characters they don't own. If anything, they should just release those characters in the Marvel line. But I doubt Marvel would want their characters used to promote the characters they lost .

I am actually looking forward to the SDCC set just because it will be nice to get a shiny new Galactic Warrior. And the box art that was done by Ken Kelly is a homerun imo.
