Post subject: Do gold tampos fade for some reason?

I was going through a storage box of loose figures this evening, and I came across my modern-style black-costumed Storm Shadow. And honestly, you'd never know that he'd ever had a gold Cobra emblem stamped on his tunic. I could barely discern a silhouette of it under a fairly bright light.

I recall that this happened to the COIL emblem on one of the COIL Troopers from the Convention Set years ago, but that figure had been out and on display, and occasionally handled somewhat. His fellow COIL troopers, kept in their box, were unaffected.

And yet, this Storm Shadow figure was not extensively handled, either. He's been in this storage box for most of his existence.

So my question is -- is there something about the metallic gold tampos that makes them particularly susceptible to fading? There's not a lot I can do about it, unfortunately, but I'd still sort of like to know.

I just handled mine a few days ago an I didnt notice the gold emblem fading. I just store mine in a plastic shoe box with a couple of other ninja fugures.

It would be nice if the stupid stars faded off if the 50th joes though.

The Ninja-Ku Storm Shadow? I just checked mine and the emblem is somewhat alright: few scrape points, but no fading. The highlights on his Gi are gone, though. Weird.

I'm going out on a wide limb here and just chalk up the fading due to whatever type of flakes certain paint companies put into their products not adhering too well, or maybe it just didn't dry properly after it left the painting process? All the different gold or brass spray paints and model paints I've ran across usually take quite a while to dry, and even then certain types just don't stick properly because of temperature conditions. Maybe you and I both got a figure that didn't have time to sit and wait for certain accouterments to solidify just right?

The highlights are pretty well gone from mine, too. Interesting theory you have there, Cut-Up. I hadn't considered the possibility that it might have something to do with that, but it might well.
