Man, the pics of the Poe Dameron X-Wing are starting to show up. The thing is a cheapo piece of crap that retails for $50. The nose cone and the guns are soft rubbery plastic and tend to be seriously warped. The figure barely fits in the cockpit. It's about the same size as the POTF X-Wing, but slightly longer with a skinnier hull. Was thinking of picking one of those up.

I have one and I really like it except for the guns. The pilot fits, but it requires some work. The nosecone is a non-issue for me. It looks like the rest of the vehicle. You can only tell the difference when you touch it. The guns are really the only issue. Unfortunately there isn't a quick fix for them that anyone has figured out yet.

Same here. My guns weren;t terrible out of the package but I fixed them anyway. Took all of 5 minutes. They aren't that rubbery to be honest, just thin. The nose cone being rubber is odd but mine looks fine. I do have to wonder if it will start to get chalky in a few years though - seems like that type of rubber. I got the pilot to fit as well, just need to recline him a little.

The TIE Fighter is fantastic. If you get one vehicle from this line, I'd go for that.

What did you do to fix your guns?

microwaved a glass pie plate (what I had with big enough diameter to fit the guns flat) of water close to boiling, dropped them in the water for maybe 10 seconds, then laid on paper towel flat for a few seconds to remove excess water, and into the freezer for maybe 2-3 minutes. Repeat as needed. Two of them needed a second dunk.

Not sure how you'd straighten out the nose cone though.

Check it out:

There have been multiple fixes for that.
People are using the heat treatment, like with the guns, and they are also putting a thin piece of cardboard in the nose cone before putting it on the body to help it hold its shape.

It's a bit disappointing to have to 'fix' stuff right out of the box, but there isn't anything that can't be fixed pretty easily, and the ship isn't anywhere near as bad as some people are trying to make it sound online.

For $50 it's terrible.

Yeah, that's more of the point. It's about twice the price it should be. And Hasbro makes it sound like we should be grateful we got one at all. That super-soft rubbery stuff is a bane with action figure toys and especially accessories. I have hated it since it first started showing up, the shovels and staff accessories in Indiana Jones figures were made from it, then the swords that came with Marvel figures. Using it for X-Wing guns is ludicrous. If I ever pick up one of these X-Wings (when they are inevitably on clearance) I will probably end up buying 3D printed guns that are already being made by people. (One guy scanned the snap-to model version).

I bought Rey's Speeder, which was $20 at Walmart (and $25 everywhere else) and it's tiny for that much money. They also had to put the pedals in a not-screen-accurate place to accommodate the 5POA figure. When the SA Rey does come out, it won't be able to use the pedals. One more thing to customize I guess.

So true. For that price, you can go TRU and get two fully articulated G.I. Joes with two vehicles for the same price, made better...but by the same company. For the price of anything in this line, it's terrible. The 5 poa figures with slide on armor are $13. That is terrible.

$50 is a bit much.

Worked like a champ, thanks for the info!

So yeah, I agree $50 is really steep for this vehicle. But I don't know if it's fair to compare it to the GIJoe sets. The majority of the parts in the GIJoe sets are using existing tooling. They didn't have to create anything new. But probably the bigger issue is the cost of licensing. Hasbro created GIJoe, they didn't have to pay licensing fees to anyone. However Hasbro had to give a bucket of money to Disney to keep the licensing. They are in the business of making money so they have to pass that cost off on us.Does that make the X-Wing worth $50? No way. But it explains a higher price for sure.

Um, how much of this X-Wing really needed to be molded anew? 'They' always tell us casting out a new mold is the costliest portion of toy manufacture, but then continue to create new inferior molds of pre-existing items. Until I see numbers -of costs and sales- I ain't buying' it (literally and figuratively).

I suppose they are two entirely different things, for the reasons you stated, but it still feels like a rip-off for the price compared to the size and articulation of the included figure to me. I'm not ripping on anyone that enjoys it, though...please keep that in mind.

Yeah, that's my problem with a lot of new offerings across a lot of different lines. Not only are they charging more, they're also offering less for the higher cost and with less quality. I get inflation, and I get that they are trying to make as much money as they can (duh), but I feel that they are crossing that line where the pursuit of profit is starting to drive customers away.

The new X-Wing is entirely new tooling. Nothing was carried over from any previous version.

Yeah, I know. I was asking how much *needed* to be retooled. We know the wings are different, but the fuselage looks to be the same with a new paintjob. If molding costs are so prohibitive, how do they justify retooling the biggest portion of the ship when it doesn't appear to be any different?
