IMHO, I don't really consider the FSS to be that high-quailty. It seems like $30 for kitbashes.

Based on the Black Cat I left for someone else to buy the other day... 12.68 or whatever it is is just too much for me.

Agreed. It's ridiculous to assert that a Club figure, with maybe one new-molded piece, should cost more than an AcidRain or Lost Planet figure. Accusations of price-gouging should be levied at the Club before anyone.

I want to quote a member of another Joe board:

Quote:
I guess I'm not sure what a "true" collector is. To me, staring at a figure behind a bubble seems a bit pointless to me. These aren't priceless artifacts or rare paintings...they are plastic held together by screws and rubber bands assembled for .50 in a sweat shop in China...

I want something I can take dio-pics of and/or do photostories with, not something I have to treat like a museum piece.

I don't really have a price, I simply want what I want. whats too much is different for every single figure. now I don't have job where I have great amounts of money for spending, so I guess its a good thing that im only seeing probably like 4 figures a year I want anymore. since the figures are all over priced and none of them ever seem to show up at the stores im looking in I guess im lucky there are so few they are making that actually interest me.

when those H.A.C.K.S. figures finally hit retail I am going to be in trouble though.

You don't even have to go to the independent toy companies to see how much Hasbro is gouging these days. The Jakks Nintendo figures are well made, well articulated, based on licensed works and still just $8.

Aren't we paying $7.50 per figure for 50th anniversary at retail? The 2 packs were $15 right? And they come with a lot more accessories than the Nintendo figures do at $8.

How many of those 50A figures or accessories are from brand-new molds? Extensive mold reuse was touted as a way to keep prices down, so why isn't it having that effect to any noticeable degree?

I'd be with you if the figures were $12 each or even if they were still running $10 each like Retaliation. But price per figure dropped 25% from retaliation to 50A. Sure they also went from mostly single carded to 2 and 3 packs and that probably saves them some in packaging and worrying about peg warmers, but we are still paying less per figure.

Less than other lines, not less than we've paid for all-new Joes. Hasbro's costs for the 50A stuff is literally only the cost of making them. There's no pre-production work for this budgeting year since it's all leftovers of what we were gonna get anyway, and there's very little new molding to be done. It's literally just the cost of plastic, packaging, shipping, and labor. So why aren't they cheaper than Joes that have all those costs plus pre-production design and molding costs as well?

I'm honestly sick of this "LASER BLAST". I'm done with a lot of stuff. I bought the Target Exclusive Ultrons today (because Ultron) and got home and realized that I would have been disappointed in these figs in 1978. I'm done with Hasbro phoning it in. I'm done with Hasbro and their 2.5" Line. I'm done with Hasbro Joes and their TRU only products. I'm done with the club and their 27$ kit bashes.

Bring on Marauder and Boss Fight. These guys, and folks who model their businesses from them, will be getting my money and attention from now on.

This. Just another reason I have a hard time getting excited over new product.

And Hasbro doesn't have to pay licensing fees as they do with Star Wars and Marvel, so Joes should be cheaper.

I'm just happy there is anything to buy at this point. After 2 horrible, unwatchable movies and no TV presence, I thought it was over. I thought maybe Retaliation 3 would see a shift for GI Joe into mimicking those other lines with poor articulation and 2.5" figures. I think I'm just so relieved that GI Joe still exists in the same build style I am pretty forgiving.

Having not bought any of the club figs, it sounds as though they aren't worth it, or at minimum, are a mixed bag?

Agree with JM70 in part; it's hard to justify the expense for sub par product. I find myself buying a lot of the figs I like almost on reflex because the idea of a well made figure is so rare.Hence my Retaliation Alley Viper problem, I freaking love that figure. Don't judge :-)

Some excellent points above. The way I see the Joe property being managed is kind of on the EA games model of business. Maybe that's overly harsh, but EA consistently pushes out half finished stuff that they know will get bought because it's the new iteration of a 20 yr old franchise.

If you guys were collecting from scratch right now, what would you put your money in? Mega Bloks? Acid Rain?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Lots of characters, well made figures, and loads of shelf space. A good cartoon that is watchable by all ages, great marketing, and better than most distribution.
