Hess Toy Trucks

Hmmmm. Seems like they did a better job of planning a celebration of the original product, look at the "2014" toy truck option.

I think this is it for Hess trucks. Kind of sad. I had one every year as a kid and my son has had one every year so far. The commemorative edition is pretty cool, I wish it was more retro though without the car inside the tanker.

I'm failing to see how one is better than the other. That was the point right?

G.I. Joe's 50th is a misnomer anyway. Half the time we're supposed to follow the anny dates of the 1/18 line, except for important anny years from the original line? I think it's silly to have had any 1/18 presence for a 50th anniversary just a couple years after the 30th anniversary for that particular line.

But yeah, hey, look at that. A truck. cool.

Does it work with 50th Joes? Now that would have gotten my attention.

I've heard of Hess, and I love that truck with the space cruiser and scout. But Dusty, what makes you think this is "it" for Hess?

It was reported a while back that it may be the last year and I have been on the lookout for the final version since seeing this story:

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/05/23/hess-toy-trucks-are-leaving-station/

The fact that they have 2 versions out this year, the one with the space cruiser and the commemorative one makes me think it is in fact true. It is sad. I guess it must be a Northeast thing since people have not heard of it, but as a kid I always got one for Christmas. It was just a given that there would be one under the tree.

The article does state they intend to sell via the internet in the future, but I think that will not hold up to keep it going.

My point was that Hess acknowledges the original for the 50th Anniversary. They have an original styled truck which is neat, wrapped up in a truck that is pretty cool. Also offering a spaceship truck, pretty cool in that they got something from the days of old, as well as something for the modern generation.

Hasbro on the other hand, seems to have totally forgone the 1964 GI Joe and instead provided us with the 32nd Anniversary line of GI Joe ARAH. Pretty weird that they didn't celebrate the version of the toy that catapulted them to success upon release.

Granted one could argue that it is a celebration of the line, and they'd be correct to a point. If it was a true celebration of the line I think a reproduction from every incarnation of the line would be required, to show how he has changed over the years, to show how we have changed over the years.
