Well, Invisible Wraith and TR101AL already made perfect versions of classic Shockwave, so I decided to go in a different direction.

Recipe is the same - just went with a different color scheme, but not so different that he's not recognizable. I just never dug yellow stripes as camouflage - never made sense to me. Also, wearing a ball cap on top of a ski mask just seems goofy. So I went with a more SWAT-y look, and used a helmet rather than a hat. I had a riot-control helmet with visor, but I chopped it up for my 25A Flash's helmet. I know I've got another one around here somewhere, but a regular Kevlar helmet will do just fine. Plus, I never had a Shockwave as a kid (I stopped collecting in '86), so I've got no great loyalty to the original paintjob anyway.

Used a Firefly body with shortened legs and a BH head. Then a PTE vest, BBI Helmet, and Marauder Mac-10 and I think I've got it. Since he's not part of the Detroit SWAT team anymore, there's no need to label his gear with SWAT (and it would be a pain in the arse anyway :P)

In normal "assault mode"

Of course it wouldn't be an official "Chief Custom" if I didn't have an unmasked version ;)

And like clockwork, now that he's built I realize I forgot to "fix" his elbow joints to allow him to bend them properly. I always forget to do that. Well, that's why I don't mix paints - I'm always having to touch it up later :P

Ya know, the more I look at the PTE vest, the less I like it. So I'll use a 25A BH vest for now until I find something better.

Cheers!

Very cool, Chief, but the non-helmeted shot looks too much like Beachhead. If you did have that visor still, he could have been a great version of the DEF Shockwave.

Agreed, I've decided that when he's not wearing the helmet, he'll be unmasked. He is too blue-Beachhead-y right now (especially since I've swapped vests.)

And while I was looking through filecards, I noticed how much of the DEF Shockwave fits in with mine (I'd totally forgotten about it.) When I was typing this originally, he didn't have goggles on his helmet, but I went back, added them, and snapped a new pic. But now with the goggles, I think I'll be able to get by without the riot helmet. It wouldn't fit right anyway - I tried it with the remnants of the other helmet and it didn't sit right.

Thanks!

Just as the clearcoat on my Shockwave finishes drying you go and post this piece of perfection. I hadn't even thought about using a helmet instead of a cap. That's a great idea! Nice job man! Very nice!

Thanks for the nod, but man you really captured the feel of the character. Nice job as always.

I think you nail the character in the first shot, with the riot gear, and as usual, you deliver a solid 25th custom.
But I agree with iwbeta saying that he looks a bit like a blue Beachead. Doesnt really matter though. They are likely to work on the same operations, and what better way to do that than in matching outfits? :)
I think he could look perfect with only goggles.

I love him. That's a great take on a character that I've always liked, and the updates all work well. I really like the color scheme on this guy (never cared for the yellow camo, either). And, I really appreciate the swappable heads: I've never liked the idea of having figures with non-removable helmets or masks, so your commitment to making alternate heads for the customs is very welcome.

I'd like to see him with a riot helmet, too, but he doesn't suffer for not having one. It's a great-looking custom.

he looks good chief, I like the different camo rather than the yellow stripes too. I think the helmet is a good idea too but I don't like the unmasked head, I just don't like thoses figures head sculpts,
Tim

How flexible is greenstuff? Can you possibly mold the original looking ribbing on top of the PTE vest?

Thanks guys!

Raps - Green Stuff is pretty flexible when you get it thin enough. The removable chest pads on my 25A Flash & 25A Bludd are both flexible enough to have quite a bit of "give" without losing their shape. That's not a bad idea to mod the PTE vest with some GS. I don't really like the ribbed pattern on the original fig, but I love the look from the original card art, so I might try doing that - building up a collar of sorts and then adding some more details to it. I think the VvV GH vest might make the perfect base for that.

Tim - I'm not too happy with that BBI head myself. I'm probably going to go back and use a DTC Mutt head to make him look younger and a little less douchey. The only problem is I have like 3 25A customs with Mutt's head, so I'll have to do something to make it look a bit different.

That's what I was thinking too. I like the helmet you have just fine, but if it were me I would have given hima helmet witha face shield.
