What was your bio for your Steel Brigade Joe? Also do you feel the new incarnation of the Steel Brigade is kinda disappointing. They look very cool but it doesn't really match what the 1st generations Steel Brigade could be, I saw them as being like more elite than the rest of the Joes but after reading the later versions bios they don't sound as cool in fact if I remember correctly they are G.I. Joe trainees.

I never had one as a kid, but I think the latest incarnation seems to be a half a step above Green Shirts. I agree with you in them being an elite team. I use mine as my "Hard and Heavy" team, made up of the Joes I've always felt were the most hard core and badass. More like a quick strike team that goes in, blows something up or kidnaps a bad guy or something like that where the stealth of the SEALs isn't needed and collateral damage isn't an issue.

My team is Gung Ho, Leatherneck, Wet Suit, Beach Head, Low Light, Mutt, and Flint. They cruise around in a couple of RHINOs with Cover Girl at the wheel of one, Clutch the other and Lady Jaye in one of the Helos.

As for the newest ones... They're neat, but I wish they were more than just primarily a POC Shock Trooper repaint. The originals were frankensteined out of assorted parts, and I wish the newest ones followed in that regard.

'Generic Elite' GI Joe troops is the dumbest concept in a toyline practically built on dumb concepts, imho.

I never cared for any of the figures, or the concept, so in my universe, they are happy to not exist.

I see them as a small assault team lead by PoC Hawk.

In these day and age, the Steel Brigade form could/should be among the thing available on GIjoe.com if it were actually used to promote the line. Fill out the form online and print it home. Join the team. Doesn't cost a thing for Hasbro and it puts more life into the brand.

why the heck isn't there a blank form Steel Brigade sheet out on the internet somewhere, a template for us to type a bio into like the filecard creator on JC? damn it, why hasn't someone made one!? I'd go nuts with that.

Steel Brigade helmets, the bad assery those visages imply, are why I'm such a fanatic over them. Yes, I agree that elite generic troops is a stupid ass oxymoron pretending to be a concept.

I DID have a Steel Brigade when I was a kid, I sent away for it and waited and waited and waited for it to be delivered. Man, as 7 year old me that 6-8 weeks was an ETERNITY! I have no recollection of what I codenamed the figure but I'm sure it was something ultra dumb. I played the "LASER BLAST" out of that figure like I did all my favorite Joes until it fell apart but I never had a chance to order a replacement. No, I never used the figure as myself on the Joe team, it was just another ass-whupping Joe in my world that just happened to wear the coolest helmet ever. Even as a wee lad in 1987 who grew up on the Star Wars trilogy, I thought the SB helmet was waaaay cooler than Darth Vader's helmet.

Anti-Venom revived that friggin' awesome helmet but it was bizarre to see established Joes wearing them all of a sudden (still, I wish I had that set in my collection but I don't). Then came the DTC Steel Brigade vs Plague set which was neat but those paintball-ish new design helmets had NO magic and I disregarded them. Then the PoC Steel Brigade came along, I found it in a store unexpectedly so I bought it... when I opened it up I was transported back in time being that child receiving my Steel Brigade in the mail. THAT HELMET! I bought 3 more of them, one I painted up as the gold headed version I never owned (I only discovered it because of YOJOE.COM 15 years ago). They are a major presence in the NFCverse because they are just awesome looking.

No, they are not generic elite troopers. They have identities and bios and nicknames, they just wear the helmets for intimidation. They can personalize their uniforms. I tweaked all mine so their khaki tan/blue fatigues are unique and the dark blue gold-helmet one is the pilot so it's his flightsuit. Grunt leads the Steel Brigade unit and rumor has it they are actually SHIELD personnel tasked out to work with GIJoe.

I did have one during the original run of the line. If memory serves, I named him "Wildcat".

I was especially impressed by the ones the Club did that were sold at the Convention a number of years ago, along with that Steel Brigade Commander.

I tend to see the Steel Brigade as something affiliated with, but slightly different from, the G.I. Joe Team. No code-names, no individual uniforms. That's not how they operate. They're the guys that go in and either do the really nasty jobs that the Joes can't or won't, or they're the guys who go into those places where obvious American soldiers just aren't going to be welcome. And they've probably got some seriously impressive (if perhaps experimental) technology in those freaky helmets.

To me the Steel Brigade are the equivalent of the Crimson Guard, the nameless civilian reserves who are called forward as the need arises. I had four of the files filled out: Maverick (pre figure & pre Top Gun. Was named after Brett Maverick a favorite rerun back then. Loner ground pounder), Miracle (a street magician/recon specialist), Commando (an Arnold influenced character), & Wildcard (a devil may care parachuter). In their civilian life they were a Dr, a street magician, a mechanic, & a construction worker.

Yeah SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE A STEEL BRIGADE GENERATOR WITH EVEN MORE OPTIONS FOR BACK GROUND WEAPONS USED AND TRAINING!!!

I rember when my family got me my Steel Brigade figure It was prob one of the best things I got as a kid. My guy was trained to use Laser Rifles, I wish the new ones had something like a Laser rife. I see them as a special forces that trained to hunt down and take out enemy special forces. And just as many of you said use advanced equipment to do their jobs.

I regret to say he had a crappy name, if I gave him a code name now it would Lightning or Illinois Blue or if all else fails Master Chief LOL
It could be worse my friend got the Gold and dark blue version and named him Captain America LOL He left it with me it is in good condtion just like my Steel Brigader but it never came with a gun.

Thats cool. You also picked a better name than I did when I was younger.

I think their helmets have the same composite vision standard Storm Troopers have maybe even the same scanners as Scout Troopers. Once you get in their sights your done LOL

I wonder if anyone has cosplayed as as a Steel Brigader, it would be sweet. Even sweeter if a whole group of people cosplayed as Steel Brigade troopers, maybe made a group like the 501st and visted children as hospitals and made those children Steel Brigade figures with custom bios.

As a kid, the one I had was me. It was something horrible like Cool Kid. When i picked up extras they became exactly like harlie's where they were civilian specialists who worked with the joes from time to time. Dr, Burkart from the Marvel comic would have been a SB, probably the Fridge too if he ever went into Battle. Essentially it protected their identity from Cobra.

Probably because it would take quite a while to develop because of all the options. But what the heck I'll add it to the to do list.

In the meantime, we were able to figure out what the filecards said depending on the options you chose. http://wiki.joecustoms.com/wiki/Steel_B ... nformation

I must've filled-out that Steel Brigade form 3 or 4 times as a kid, but could never get my parents to sign-off on getting one. They knew a Joe fig was $3 so it was impossible to convince them to pay over retail for one. My bio would've basically been the same as Snake-Eyes, so it was all about commando and silent loner-type traits. I can't even begin to imagine all the adventures that fig would've had if I had gotten it. I would've re-assigned every cool accessory to that fig :shifty:

At one point, I thought about using the Steel Brigade as temporary assault or support group. They'd swarm in on JUMP jetpacks to turn the tide of a losing battle or hold down the fort in some manner. I had this wacky idea that they'd all be assigned Airborne or Duke torsos, but stopped when I realized the Duke torso has been used on quite a few figs over the years.

Something I always wondered is that the Steel Brigade application form always asked for two martial arts styles... but every single filecard sample I've seen gave the character three....
