Some figures I still have as is. I think they are good figures that fit the characters very well.

I've used the belts and skirts, the hands, heads, thighs, and feet for different customs. Probably the one surgery I've done the most is used those some of the overly long thumbs to replace broken thumbs on ARAH style hands. It gives them the rubery grip necessary to hold some weapons.

The DTC line was really beginning to hit its stride at the end. Hasbro was choosing to recycle the better molds (Low-light, Red Zone, SAW Viper) and coming out with great new designs (Bazooka, Barrel Roll, Barrage). But it was all written off for the new design team to completely change the way GI Joe was constructed and IMO took away an integral part of GI Joe by removing the o-ring.

I was originally not a fan of the newsculpt stuff and from a collector's standpoint there are a large amount of stinkers in the line. But from the customizing side I can't think of any figure that was a total waste. Every figure had at least one redeeming part for customizing and the availability and cheaper cost made having a huge assortment of parts to choose from very viable. I have drawers and drawers full of parts and admittedly there are a bunch of squat torsos and stubby arms that will probably never get used but when the parts work together they really look good.

Grand Slam, Barrel Roll, and Major Bludd were the DTC highlights for me. Even now I still think they're pretty dang snazzy figures, the modern line versions don't rival those new sculpt figures at all.

I wished then that Bludd's arms weren't preposed and it is still a hang up but it's still my only issue.

I still have all of mine, but they're in tubs and haven't been looked at in years. Except for one tub, which I let my GF's son play with when he's over at my place.
Other than that, I've modified some of the heads to fit on the modern line's bodies for updates or new characters.

I think a lot of heads from that era can be used and repurposed. And a lot of the tail-enders are decent enough to stand out on their own. Major Barrage is a decent o-ring figure and if they had continued on with that type of body construction, I would've been happy with it. Munitia and Barrel Roll also get special notice. And from an accessories standpoint, the Night-Viper came with a bunch of unique stuff. That particular uzi has been been re-used for any other figure that I can recall. The helmet with the flip-up night-vision attachment has been re-purposed to other figs in my collection. The updated Firefly rifle was a nice touch, as well.

I'm just getting back into collecting again and to tell you the truth I still pick up these figures, heck one of the Dollar Generals I've looked for the new guys at still had the 2007 figures still on the peg, not just one but a full peg. As far as customs go I just pieced together one using the Spy Troops Heavy Duty arms. Once I get a chance it's gonna be a more mobile Muton (Red Shadows robot, I think that's the name)

Several years ago I made a Devils Due Lady Jaye LBC from Bombstrike. I painted her hair brown and her shirt black. I also dyed the Snake Eyes that came with Swamp Rat black. Aside from a few other simple parts swaps, I didn't bother too much with these figures due to the badly proportioned parts.

In the Great Purge of 2011, I took all the "bad" figures and ebayed them all in a lot. The handful of figures I retained (i.e. Barrel Roll, etc) I have not customized, since I like them enough as-is.
