I realize i am posting this on Joecustoms lol. None the less i am curious as to how most of you feel regarding custom GI Joe or Cobra characters in your "joeverse" or collection. When it comes to joe do you only collect / keep official Hasbro characters? if you "play" (however you define that) do you include non official characters of your or others creation? Do you keep them separate when displaying your official figures?

New and original characters is a great part of the fun.

In my Joeverse my customs are part of it. And the "official characters" I don't care if the are Joe, Cobra, etc. And Indiana Jones goes along for the ride alot.

hell yes. I could never limit my collection or my 'verse to Hasbro-only characters!

I've mentally replaced all my 82/32 figures with LIVEVIL's...

I was looking for a custom for the Cons and couldn't find it anywhere. This weekend I took a vehicle out and saw I'd packed the vehicle with that custom driver I made. Sometimes those single purpose customs get more action than regular figures.

Yup, making a custom fig a 'real' character is part of the fun.

My joeverse doesn't need 29 Dukes. So if I can pop a new head on version 18, outfit him with unique, mission-specific gear and voilà: the Joes just got a new Air Combat Controller, something the team desperately needs, but Hasbro haven't given us one yet.

I got so sick of seeing the same core characters over and over again, I've been doing this for years, albeit it is much harder to do with very unique looking figures like Storm Shadow or even Cobra Commander.

Ok how about this lol.....

Do you limit those customs that you consider a part of your joeverse to customs made predominantly (by percentage lol?) from Joe figures ? And for that matter...do you mix customs from different joe lines in your Joeverse?

it would be cool if random joecustoms' customs regularly appear in G.I.Joe comics (IDW or not), even if they're killed off... i'd think customizers would love this... at least its better than seeing/reading random one-shot heroes like those appearing in the comics lately.

I've made a few here and there, but with the rich 30 year history of G.I. Joe which can be further supplemented by Adventure Team, Action Force, Commandos Em Açao, Sgt. Savage, G.I. Joe Extreme, Sigma Six, The Corps!, etc.... I often prefer going with an existing character, even if reimagined, over making up a new one that'd basically be a cheap replacement.

I think there are some legal issues that stop Hasbro and its licensees from doing that.

I love making new, original characters as well as updating some of my favorites. Many original characters have taken a very prolific role in my Joeverse and I've made multiple customs of them.

There are several existing characters that I cannot seem to get enough of and enjoy making new customs of them; this includes Stalker, Outback, Tunnel Rat, Torpedo, Dodger, Duke, Roadblock and more...

In my Joe-verse, R E-verse, Skyrim-verse, Predator-verse, Bayala-verse, Every-verse. The play is even more fun taking a tip from one of my top 13 here and making a self custom to enjoy each verse, with a backstory. For instance, Ada Wong gets her crossbow tuned and arrows from RE Cap. Skyrim Cap just got freed from my mini Helgen dio and is now running around with a Bosmeri archer gal. Joe-verse Cap sharpens the blades at the PITT. Bayala Cap just woke up on their shores having been transported by a dark wizard's blast.

Customs and universes are fun on a bun.

quoted for truth!

For me it's more about whether or not Joes get to play in my customs verse. lol.

But yeah, as a kid I loved the Joe Mythos, but rarely felt bound to it. Even then, before I knew about physically customizing the figures, I as changing the identities and backstories of the characters. That's where the fun lies, and always has for me.
