POC hiss trades do not work on the Retaliation under carriage.
In fact nothing is interchangeable. The Hiss Body is all new, you can't even swap the canopy.

So hasbro tooled up a completely new version of that vehicle with no real difference other than that cheesetastic little turret?

How is that cost effective?

There are more differences than just the turret. The canopy, the additional weapons on the sides, the (crappy) treads. I'm just surprised they tooled up a new base body that looks so much like the POC version. Why not take the POC HISS body and build off that?

Maybe Hasbro wanted to make a more movie accurate version?

The ports are different sizes.

I used some styrene sheets and two longer screws to attach the new HISS to the PoC HISS treads. It took some time, but the results are great.

Btw, the new canopy fits the PoC HISS.

Yesterday I opened the HISS to look it over. Today I got around to putting it together and discovered I am unable to attach the body to the damn chassis! HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS ISSUE!?

It's like the black post is too short to reach to the point up in the armor where it should snap in place.

What the hell...:-x

Mine wouldn't attach right away. I had to get a good push on it to get it to click. I actually got it to go on with the treads off and the chasis backwards. I was then able to rotate it then put the treads on. Although the front part of the tread pops off a little too easy.

Had the same problem too. Ended up disassembling it partially to get it to snap together. Had to do something similar to get the engine assembly on the Fang Boat

Seriously, my theory is that the cost of the new molds (a one time expense) is probably cheaper than using the PoC molds for large production runs. In other words, to produce 50 000 (Made up number, I have no inside info) PoC HISSes (with rubber treads, spring up feature, etc) is more expensive for Hasbro than to produce the same number of Ret HISSes (including the new tooling). Basically, by simplifying the design, they're saving in labour costs to have them assembled. New HISS has fewer parts than old HISS, so it's cheaper to produce. Add the fact that the driver is now cheaper as well, the box design (structure) is simplified and they're producing a larger number of units than with PoC and that adds up to the fact that it's advantageous to Hasbro to have retooled it completely. That's my theory anyway.

OB

According to what info they've shared, this would be why.

I had to turn the chassis backward as well before I could get it to snap into the main body.

would have really helped if the instructions had made that clear

I'm surprised we still get instructions any more.

That is sadly a good point. Since the damn filecards are gone, how long till the instruction sheets are too?

I don't think they will ever get rid of instruction sheets, from a liability point of view.

First time they get sued because some lawyer proves someone got hurt trying to assemble something.

Well, I got my "donor" Crimson HISS in the mail today and went to work.

I think it turned out pretty well -- I like the overall look of the Retaliation HISS body better, but prefer the tracks from the PoC version - mashed them together easily enough.

So here's my exclusive CHSDCC (Chief Hates SDCC) Crossover Soundwave!

Basically, you take the little blue inserts from the Retaliation treads and graft them onto the PoC treads. The diameters of the round parts are identical, but they don't line up perfectly without mods (which is why you can't just swap out the chassis). I ended up chopping mine down quite a bit so that the wheel base wouldn't be so wide.

They have to be glued in place, so basically you're left with (even more) useless Retaliation treads. The PoC HISS ends up being track-less as a result, but that was my intention anyway - I'll paint up the PoC body and make it a HYDRA gunship or whatever.

So even though it's do-able (took only about 10 minutes -- would have been less, but I decided to saw down the inserts), you're basically bashing two HISSes together and only getting one viable vehicle out of the mix. I wouldn't suggest trying to build a whole tank battalion using this method - but I only wanted the one, so it was worth it, IMO.
