The sadder part was, Severed packed it so damn well, I can't fathom how hard this box had to be dropped
to make the whole gantry doors explode. And they did explode, there were parts all over the inside of the box.

anyone have a gantry laying around

I insured it for 150$ ( I pre-paid the label for it)
the problem is, If I make the claim, I get the money back, but they take the whole package back and all the contents are destroyed.

Unfortunately those doors are made of the same plastic as the Cobra battlements on the Terrordrome and they can be SUPER brittle. It must have something to do with how they were stored because I have one Defiant crawler where the doors are like new and not brittle, and one that showed up just like that... :-(

I've been bugging him about the smaller parts, but yea, If I can find a Gantry for a decent price, I'll just move on. Still so aggravating. Severed had packed it so well, you could probably get a good nights sleep in the box.
It's like opening an easter egg, and there's a single penny inside.

This is one reason I'm becoming so afraid to collect older toys. Beyond just prices always going up and more and more broken samples, I have to wonder how much longer it'll be until these things start falling apart due to age. I have an 83 and an 84 Cobra Commander, both of which I barely even handle, and silently wonder at which point they may start to degrade and crack apart. I don't think I could ever go for something like a Terrordrome or a Fort Max, they cost a lot and even if you get them in good shape, how long will they stay that way even if you don't touch them?

And I guess it's a concern that'll apply to newer toys eventually, as they're made of consistently lower quality plastic.

Having owned my Tdrome since 1986, I saw it degrade and snap in places, becoming more and more brittle. I sold it and the Flagg when I knew it was destined to be a broken old toy some day - and I didn't want it to be on my watch.

Plus the money was pretty good too.

meh. toys are toys. i used to cry over the fact my mom threw away my deathstar. and then ebay happened.

plus, broken toys make excellent tech detail.

Those blue doors break if you look at them wrong.

If you pick them up in the wrong spot, they'll splinter.

Not that I think FedEx did it any favors, but that plastic is more fragile than glass. :(

GAHHH! Really?!?!? My uncle bought me mine in '86 too and I still have it. Is this inevitable?

I have seen temperature shifts in transit do that. It doesn't take much to shatter the old stuff.

I'd still do it.. It's not like they know what was inside, right?
