SO..i came across this purely by chance:
http://www.weirdotoys.com/2012/01/25/co ... lmec-toys/

and it got me thinking....

I sincerely appreciate Larry Hama's original GI Joe run and specifically recall the character that died in the line of duty - Cool Breeze.

I had no clue that the Bronze Bombers , the original line that used non Hasbro molds, had a character named "Cool Breeze" (who happened to attend Hitler Medical School. No i'm not kidding).

Is there any record of Larry Hama (or anyone) confirming that Hama's Cool Breeze character was "inspired by" the Bronze Bomber character of the same name ?

I'm pretty sure that Bronze Bombers came out long after Cool Breeze was dead.

The package for BB Cool Breeze is 1988, so I think it did come first. IIRC, they were around a bit before the Marvel character.

But Hasbro did actually have a Cool Breeze MLP before Olmec I think. I am guessing that they wanted to use a name that Hasbro could actually use if they wanted to.

Also I seem to remember from Mark Bellemo's book that Cool Breeze was one of the potential names for a Joe prior to the Marvel character. Let me go look that up.

Edit: it was Iceberg in 1986. So Hama was toying with the name prior to the Bronze Bombers, no pun intended.

Somewhat offtopic, but I always wondered if Bob Brown's callsign in The Unit was a nod to G.I. Joe, as his was Cool Breeze.

Funny how A.J. Moon's card art actually has the joint pins painted onto the arms.
