With all the talk about articulation points, one thing has been missed:

Why do the figures previewed so far look so different from the on-screen characters they're supposed to represent?

Because the life cycle of a toy is longer than that of the movie. Design and Production for the Toys had to start BEFORE the final casting and wardrobe for the movie were finalized. So the first few waves of Retaliaton figures won't be exactly movie accurate.

Which makes sense if they were working on these last spring before it was announced that The Rock had signed on to be Roadblock in early June. It's one thing if in the case of the Shipwreck script rewrite/edit going on, but making a decent head sculpt?

Good point. Look at what ZombieGuide posted earlier in the thread and what the trooper shown looks like. Maybe there's more than one Cobra army builder?

Yeah whether there are or aren't, we'll get multiple army builders. I went back and looked at the Roadblock pictures again, the figure actually has a pretty decent likeness to the sculpt, but with the facial expression it's sculpted in it kind of throws that off from what you think of for The Rock.

Plus that goatee has like a .5% chance of showing up painted correctly on store shelves.

and Roadblock is missing ankle articulation... the correctly painted goatee in the bubbles is a lot less irritating to me than the ankles.

The heads are probably scanned in 3D actor likenesses, so they'd not take long to make. They also probably have in mind a particular body type for each character when casting actors. Making a muscle body and slapping on the right head wouldn't be too hard.

It looks like they've dummied down the Hiss quite a bit. It looks like fake treads, and no articulation, in return for a clear cockpit canopy.
Looks like I'll have to hunt down a black PoC after all.

They've also added some bigger cannons and what looks like a manned turret. Granted I'd like to have the moving treads but better armament and a cool looking canopy are okay by me.

Glad I have a spare brown Hiss tank. Hopefully I can switch the treads with the old one. I was in the dying a set of treads black. It was going well but they need another dip. I just haven't had a chance to do any dye jobs for a while.

Unless they change the connector on the bottom of the main body you should be able to just pop it on the entire POC chassis.

speaking of pop n swap, did they have to do any re-tooling to the VAMP to get the missile launcher from the snowcat to fit? i like how that looks, and never bothered to check to see if it was a standard size or not.

hate the vehicle's colors though.

Yes and no, That whole roof/doors/rollbar/rear cargo area looks to be a whole new piece...This type of future planning was speculated when people 1st got their hands on these Vamps.. It's entirely possible this "variant" of the Vamp was designed parallel to the Vamps we've currently gotten.

Hasbro has done added "alternate Heads" and other parts to Transformer Tooling...It makes sense that they're getting to a point where they really need to stretch dollars spent on tooling.

Wow. It's a shame about the colour and all those silly ninja logos. The comparison shot really make me want the new VAMP.

BTW, I have to point it out, but WTF is up with the ninja logos on the head lights. Seriously? I hope those are just from the sticker sheet. If so, Cobrastickers.com is going to be getting more of my money if they make a decent sticker set for this bad boy. :)

I don't think the post on the Wolf Hound (aka Snow Cat) is long enough to clear the roll bar on the vamp straight up. That part and how it connects to the Ninja VAMP would have to be new. And there is no where for the missile rack to connect into on the post from the VAMP.

My Dreadnoks are digging the Fangboat. I want one just for them. As far as the rest of the stuff: I like what I'm seeing so far. I thought the pre-posed drivers would bother me, but they don't. When I display my stuff, it's usually with drivers/pilots in their vehicles, so the missed articulation won't really be noticed. The ones I might want a posable version of, well, I like the vehicle enough I'll probably want at least two, anyway, like the HISS, so I'll have one with the driver in it and I can use the other driver for fodder.
One thing I'm curious about and if it's been addressed, I missed it: The Clutch figure, does it look like he has a ball on his chest for connecting to something?

Geez, that figure looks like an old Sgt. Rock figure with just a little more detail:
