Terrific, so our choices for Jinx are a Club exclusive via subscription, or one of two SDCC exclusives. :(

Zarana's are selling for $40-$50 on eBay last time I looked. I guess it depends if you want to spend that much on an action figure.

Are you serious?

I guess the fact that people are OK with paying that much for a single action figure and are NOT outraged over it means that this hobby has moved into the realm of the absurd.

IMHO.

This is why Cobra Commander may be the only toy I buy from this line. I can't really get urged to support Hasbro for making stupid decisions constantly. I'll just say it- I think the company would be run better if Brian Goldner were gone. This is the second female to go to SDCC now while the retail line gets variants. I just can't justify spending money to "support" a line that's not really living up to what I want beyond 1 or 2 toys a year.

Yes, I'm serious. And no, I didn't pay that much for a Zarana, or Sgt. Slaughter the year before. But any hobby that involves collecting things, whether it's coins or cards or action figures, has items that are rare, either by age or by design. And with a low supply and high demand the price will go up.

Of course the SDCC exclusive for this year was going to a be a figure that people want. Why would they put out something that no one wants?

Do I personally think that there should be exclusives like this? Nah, I think anyone who wants a particular figure should be able to get it. But that's not the reality of the situation right now.

19 of the 33 items there are ninja-fied. As a fan not hugely into the ninja aspect that leaves a bit to be desired.

I'll be getting a couple of HISS tanks though. I like the blue and new canopy. Zartan and The Rock both look really good too.

Pointed out on twitter for those like me who don't read.

The G.I. JOE movie toy line features your favorite G.I. JOE characters, including an all-new, super-heroic take on ROADBLOCK, as well as JOE COLTON, the original founder of the G.I. JOE team, and an imposing COBRA COMMANDER action figure! Also featured is an array of incredible new ninja toys, including an unprecedented line-up of "ninja-tastic" action figures, vehicles, swords, masks, and throwing stars. And don’t forget the action-packed toy vehicles: "Wherever there’s trouble, G.I. JOE is there," whether by land, sea, or air!

The speculation on Jinx is that we'll get movie accurate ones (red outfit with blindfold and yellow mountain outfit) as part of the main line.

You're right. I could grouse about how stupid it is to put a highly desirable figure out there to be scalper bait, but why fight reality? I'd rather not feed into Hasbro's idea that this is a good decision.

I wanted Slaughter. Didn't get him. I wanted Zarana, not only did I not get him but lots of others didn't either. Either variant.

The system is flawed.

Zarana's a dude??? I knew there was something not so fishy about her.

I would have bought MULTIPLES of Zarana at retail. Instead I bought none. Explain how it is a good business move to do it like that at all, and then I'll be happy for them.

It's really hard to tell, but does that Ninja Showdown set look like it has Slice hanging off a rope?

Sure looks like it.
Probably a repainted Red Ninja with the mask that came with Temple Snake Eyes.

Do we have a street date for these?

I'm really drawn to the Ghost Hawk II and Ninja Combat Cruiser for some reason. Ghost Hawk II has some potential to be pretty neat, depending on the size. And Ninja Combat Cruiser (with some different stickers) could make a great Cobra Stinger. Love that they're taking existing molds and adding new parts to get extra mileage out of them.

And the vehicle drivers could potentially be very cool, especially Clutch.

Ghost Hawk II is most likely a retool of the Black Dragon copter thingie.

Sucks that Clutch comes with that stupid little tank but if I find it I'll get it so I can use the treads of a 25th HISS tank.

I passed on Starscream Skystriker but I'll be getting the Shockwave HISS Tank if I can.

Same here. I'm especially interested in the unmasked Jinx they previewed, but as with Zarana, I don't expect to own one. I get paying more money for the rare collectible aspect of it. But since my interest is for custom parts, that's cost prohibitive.

Will be interested to see if pluv's guess is right, as to some movie accurate versions of her hitting retail. Also, I can see enough interesting parts here to be overall happy, if this is truly just wave 1, and if wave 2 has good figures for Colton (as indicated) and actual articulated figures for Flint and Firefly (thinking that a movie accurate Firefly will make for great custom fodder), and a solid Lady Jaye also. The fact we get ANOTHER Channing Tatum figure before Lady Jaye irks me a bit, but as long as they get to it eventually, I'll be alright.

Of course, they could cure all those ills, with a screen accurate figure of her in the red dress...
