At $1025.00, it was just a little out of my price range. :monocle:
I would have bid $1024.00 max :-P

So, what would my MOC one go for? Damn, it's ugly. Definitely looks better in the package :shifty:

I got the whole set of Street Fighter figures I want to get rid of. Well, minus 1 and I forget who it was I don't have. But mine are all mint on card too.

It's always these auctions that go for crazy prices that make people think selling toys is nothing but profits. Sometimes I feel like I gotta pay people just to take the stuff away.

I've got all my SF figures on eBay at the moment. Only a few bids so far. :-(

No way I'm bidding on that, but I might have bought it way back when if it had been released in the stories.

Way out of my price range.

Too bad, I personally think he looks sort of neat.

I think that's the first time I've looked at a $6 shipping quote for a single figure and thought, "that seems a bit low." If I paid a thousand dollars for a figure (which, by the way, I wouldn't), I'd want him to arrive in the biggest, most elaborate shipping container ever created.

Sheesh! Over a thousand bucks for him? No way I'd pay anywhere NEAR that. I saw one once in person once. Not too bad a figure, it's a shame he wasn't released -- but he looks like he swallowed a live blowfish and it went off in his throat.

There are generally only two kinds of people on totally different ends of the spectrum who would care about something like this.

1. A speculator whose only interest is in rarity and value as an investment or bragging right.

2. A die-hard fan conservator who wants to ensure this piece isn't lost or forgotten.

I'm neither, but I can respect the second. There are a number of wealthy collectors I'm aware of who treat their high-end collections with the respect of museum pieces just for love of the hobby and the niche in pop culture that G.I. Joe made. I hope it went to one of them. The people who just like to own and preserve a piece of history.

Personally, I can't understand people who place value on an object in regard only to rarity or popularity. I would pay no more for this than if some Chinese bootlegger made an exact duplicate... which is to say I wouldn't pay anything because I don't want it, not because it's bad just personal preference.

Same way I feel about anything valuable I own. I have it because I love it, and value is not an issue. There used to be a big stigma against "perfect" copies, because people were afraid they would devalue the originals. But I say if they can re-release a perfect copy of the Night Raven, Euro Tiger Force or whatever then do it if its profitable. It doesn't devalue anything it increases the value by making it available for more people to own and enjoy in perpetuity.

My point is, this figure is ugly. I think most people will agree. It's like PDD... a funny little fig but nobody really wants one enough to pay what it's gone for over time - not for what it is. There are a lot of things like that people start to salivate over just because its rare. Gold, Silver, Diamonds. Sillyness to me, but hey that's just my opinion.

I dunno. I just like Street Fighter and I don't think the toy looks THAT bad (definitely superior to the previous Ryu, or to Ken who had a giant snarling head). I don't want bragging rights or value or "preservation". I just want a toy that looks neat, and he looks neat.

The auction winner here is definitely the second. This thing is going to a good home.

I was trying to win this thing, but lost during the shill bidding. 40 bids less than minutes apart all from a 0 feedback bidder AND that bidder was not the winning bidder when his bidding frenzy ended? Yeah, there was some fake bidding going on here. I don't think it affected the end value because the later bidders were for real. But it was still disheartening.

I very much understand, and hey if anybody has the money they can buy what they want. It's only puzzling to me when the price becomes astronomical compared to what is being bought. There are probably 100 people on this board who could and would gladly make a custom of this for anyone who asked, some would do it for 2% of that price. There are also probably two or three people on here who could exactly duplicate this piece, again for a fraction of the cost.

Let me put it this way...

If this figure were extremely common, it would be "worth" less right?

Well if it were common, would you still want it? Some people would change their answer and their opinion of it based on that without even knowing. Just a fun point of discussion for me, I don't mean to offend anyone at all.

Actually, that was NOT a shill bidder. Last year, someone contacted me about my Ryu in the YoJoe archives. Ironically enough, I recieved another e-mail from him shortly before this Ryu went up for auction asking me if I had changed my mind about selling mine.

So, once I saw the high bid was at $100 and decided I was not going to bid, I replied and told him about the auction. So he was the zero feedback bidder who made all those bids. So no need to be upset. It was all good :-D

I know I would. It kind of irks me that I will only ever have 11 of the 12 Street Fighter characters from this line. What an epic fail by Hasbro to forego production of the main character from the series.

I would be psyched if the owner of a Ryu let me take it apart and cast the constituent parts. Having a cast of an unproduced figure would be just as good to me, especially if it costs hundreds of dollars less. I'm looking at you, Patrick! Let me take your figure out of the package and pry it to pieces so that the fan base can finally have their Ryu figure! Not into it? Aww. Well, can't blame you, I guess!

Ben
