Well, I just got back from Walmart, and here's the situation from there.
G.I.Joe was NOT sold out, but it had clearly done well. There were perhaps a third to a half of the individual figures that I saw there earlier this week. Part of me wonders how much of this can be attributed to the fact that, at $5.00 apiece, they were the least expensive figures around.
Vehicles also did well. I snagged the last Cobra Gunship today on a gift card, and that was only because I'd hidden the thing a couple of days ago (and it was still there!). And it was the absolute last vehicle in that size/price range in the store. There were a few small vehicles and the Walmart playsets left, but not many, and that's fine with me. There's any number of new vehicles upcoming that I am interested in, and now there's space for them, and as such a likelihood that they'll be stocked.
In my opinion, the scarce vehicles are likely to be the Dragonfly and the Crimson Hydra. I barely saw either of them leading up to Christmas (thanks for the Crimson Hydra, dzirhan!), and since they were part of the Rise of Cobra line, not the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra, I question if they'll be carried over.
In other lines:
Star Wars seems to have fared decently, mostly new figures. The supply was considerably dwindled from earlier this week, and I didn't see very many vehicles today.
Transformers does NOT look to have fared all that well. There were still plenty to be had. Finally found the end cap where they hid all the Masterpiece Skywarps, but they haven't dropped the price here yet.
DC seems to have fared reasonably well, but the Walmart near me doesn't allocate it that much space to begin with. Marvel doesn't look to have done that well, as there were still plenty around, including the Goliath set, and even some Marvel Legends that showed up just before Christmas.
Power Rangers did reasonably, although I'm starting to feel sorry for that Green Ninja Storm Ranger "chase" figure that's been hanging around for over a month. I've got one of my own already. What I'd really like to see is the Titanium Ranger.
The shocker to me this morning was the almost complete absence of WWE product. I think I saw one single carded figure and one two-pack. Now, I know that Mattel has been making a great deal out of their new WWE figures coming out on January 1, 2010. But I more or less figured they'd have to share space with whatever was left of Jakks' product. But there was hardly any. I find it difficult to believe that it ALL sold. Makes me wonder what's happening in that area "behind the scenes"...
