Since things are a little slow around here, and I have too much free time, I thought I would do a quick, fun poll.

2 very similar soldiers. Which one do you like better and why? You can consider any incarnation, figures, cartoon, comics, etc.

I think they are both very cool figures with cool details and great gear. But I voted for Mutt. He is the original, and looks more fierce.

I prefer Mutt. His design is a bit more practical, he looks a lot nastier and he has cooler accessories. The dog handler wearing the muzzle? It's brilliant!

I had LAW as akid which bought him favorability but the movie ruined that. The light blue and red isn't very realistic either - the later repaints, sound attack and collectors additions are much nicer.
Now the original Mutt I grew to love as an adult - I liked Mutt in the cartoon - the loner with a heart tugging love for his dog was touching. I also love the detail of the figure and all the accs.

As for Junkyard and Law it's the opposite ...just a personal preference - I like German Shepards.

In my opinion - Mutt & Junkyard are the greater contribution to the Joe Team. Law & order are just glorified Greenshirts

I liked Mutt in the cartoons and the comics.
I also liked the Texican twist to Law very much as well and I prefer German Sheppards. But the bright colors of Law take him down to secondary to Mutt.
If Law had been able to be used more then maybe I would have chosen him, but since he never really got ingrained into my childhood like Mutt did he comes in a close second.

To give Law and order their props Order was a bomb sniffing Dog. Also Law wasn't just some white dude like I thought he was as a kid. If he'd come out a bit earlier in the 80s he'd have won.

However Mutt and Junkyard from the comics won me over big time. I feel if L&O came out and hit the comics around the 30's or 40's they'd have gotten more characterization.

Let's see...

1) Mutt was the first dog handler that came out. Also resulted in 6 mos of hunting for the figure after seeing it on a cardback, and know I had to have it. Law and Order came out after my Joe hiatus started.

2) Mutt looks more bad_ _ _ that Law (the muzzle seals the deal)

3) As big of a fan as I am of any dog tie-in, I CANNOT stand the German Shepard mold Hasbro uses. Please, let someone in the factory drop that, so it stops getting reused. Heck, bring back Spearheads bobcat if they need an animal pack-in

So, Mutt and Junk in a landslide

To me, each duo has a different mission parameters and can co-exist on the same team.

It's about what you use them for.

Mutt and Junkyard (always the original version, other molds are new characters w/different head swaps): I've always felt these two were more active field agents. According to Mutt's filecard, there is nothing to indicate he has any MP training. He's a Dog Handler with Infantry and Jungle Warfare Training, and has been an advisor to a Security/Enforcement committee. Mutt and Junkyard go out into the field to assist the JOEs when they need help in the field. I would have used the two in Springfield to assist in searching houses for hidden Cobras, and would have sent the two onto Cobra Island during the assault.

Law and Order: Law is a MP, so he is primarily tasked with the security of the installation. I can see Law and Order walking along checkpoints, down a line of people waiting in line for access, or even checking out possible intruder points. I never have Law and Order out in the field on an 'away' mission. They are always stationed at the base, whether it be the PIT or someplace the JOEs need watched over.

I have several character WIPs that also operate with dogs.

I prefer Mutt, as I really enjoyed him in the early Marvel issues (#26 et..al, Zartan's Lair, etc...)

I do not dislike Law, but he is more MP than what Mutt, is a pure dog handler. even Mutt's filecard shows him to be a dog handler (not an MP dog handler!0 and infantryman. Law was awesome as our first (I think) MP, with a great pooch, but Mutt just seemed to be a Bad A$$ dog handeler.

Law's intro into the comic was horrbile. Him chuckles, Fast Draw etc... in a very badly drawn stand alone comic. I hated all those characters for a while. only later did I come to really like fast draw, but he was always a marginal character.

Looks like Mutt & Junkyard are way ahead. I kind of expected that but not by such a wide margin.

I agree with those who say Law suffered from being introduced later, and he didn't have much comic or cartoon face time. Mutt, on the other hand, got some prime screen time, and was better represented in the comics as well.

I do think they can and do co-exist on the team. I always thought of them as filling more or less the same role, but as some pointed out, there were subtle differences in their functions. Mutt was a gruff loner, but perhaps he and Law hit it off, sharing a love of dogs.

Hey, we don't have a Junkyard smiley! Mutt is gonna bite someone's leg off for that! :mutt:

Mutt & Junkyard.
A better first appearance, although I like L&O accessoires better. Good thing L&O got better in the Sound Attack and Anniversary versions.

I totally agree. They are like apples and oranges. Though if I had to choose I'd pick Mutt and Junk as my faves. I have to add that both figures have ugly head-sculpts. No wonder they are hanging out with dogs instead of chicks. Just kiddin'!

I also saw Mutt and Junkyard as pursuit specialist, tracking down people and such.

Law and Order therefore being a MP/ Security team.

Widescope is SWAT and Lamont is the SWAT attack dog

Dumb question: I always wondered why Mutt came with a face mask. Is that supposed to be Junkyard's muzzle? Does it fit on him?
