ARAH for me. Paint sticks them better, most of the parts swap easier. In their hayday they were the main float in the parade. Lots of innovation and a lot of different types of figures and vehicles. Also as a kid I usually had a solid year and a half to buy a figure, and never had any concern with not finding figures. I could circle wanted figures on the back of cards and distribute those card backs to family members, they never had any trouble finding the figures I wanted.

If the POC line was already out, and the modern distribution system didn't suck, then my decision would be a bit harder, but I think ARAH would still win out.

I felt torn about this between ARAH and ROC but danielb's arguments swayed me to the side of ARAH.

I voted New Sculpt because that's what brought me back to the game.

RAH is what got me started as a kid. They were my main toy for 10+ years. I took them apart, repaired them, and made new characters. I never focused on the GI Joe storyline at all (Buzzer was my main good guy for example) and they found a way into my playtime no matter how I started, whether it was Legos, Matchbox, or wrestling. I even had them playing baseball and football. But I eventually grew up, or so I thought.

I was introduced to them new sculpt stuff near the end of the Spytroops run. At first I despised the things since they didn't mesh with my old joes but I slowly came around. I found this site and started messing around with customizing. Since I didn't have many of my original joes in good shape I figured I would use the easily replaceable new sculpt stuff. And from there I began to like the superhero physique and the overall style. New characters and new designs for old characters fueled my creativity. Now the majority of my collection consists of new sculpt releases and customs.

I got excited when the 25th stuff was announced. And with the original idea of a 25 figure run I thought it would be a nice "bookend" to my collection. But after it took off it got boring seeing repeat after repeat of 25 year old characters. And the parts reuse made it feel more and more like buying the same figure again and again. Add in the not so customizer friendliness and my interest was shot.

The ROC stuff is fun to look at but parts reuse is getting old their as well. I do like the look of the figures and since I hated the movie it's easier for me to ignore and make the figures my own characters (after I turn them into o-ring new sculpts). And I'm a huge fan of new characters. But the shelves seem to be kinda over-saturated with the first wave and thumbing through the same old stuff is wearing thin again.

I voted ROC, but it was more a vote for the future. After seeing some of the ways the line is gonna go, that's what excites me the most.

RAH, and if I could narrow it down, RAH '82-'86.

I went with 25A, though I don't see the difference between 25A and ROC aside from characters getting updated looks. From an aesthetics and mechanical standpoints the overall design is identical.

Each era has its ups and downs.

ARAH's lack of swivel wrists are frustrating when comparing to newer figures. Even today, the '82 figures have a certain magic never matched by any following wave.

Some of the NS figures were flawless, but many suffered from horrid proportions. Hasbro also threw a lot of new characters into the mix, too.

Although I don't like the upper-torso articulation point and the lack of an o-ring, the additional articulation and details on the 25A/ROC figures are great. But sometimes they can't hold weapons.
