I noticed that the other day, it looks nifty enough.

So... if Speed Metal is really 1985 Heavy Metal, then who was it that comes w/ the Target RHINO?

The RHINO driver has the filename and code of this guy: http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/rampage2.shtml

they mixed the characters up... kind of.

in 1989, Heavy Metal was renamed Rampage due to the copyright of the original codename.

Variations:
In 1989, Heavy Metal was available mail-order from Hasbro Direct. However, he was no longer referred to as Heavy Metal but as "Rampage".
....

Rampage's filecard has the same text as Heavy Metal's card, except that any mention of Heavy Metal was changed to Rampage.

But the 2003 character is clearly a completely seperate character.

... until the Target RHINO driver combined the two. And then Speed Metal took the original HM's codename.

Psst... have you seen Ripcord lately? These colour changes aren't exactly unheard of in the new ROCverse. ;-)

Repeater too...

As far as the codenames, this is just sloppy work on Hasbro's part. They've figure out ways around this before, such as adding codenames or slightly altering filenames. They're just not doing their homework before the packaging goes to print.

It would have been better to have changed up the color scheme on the Rhino driver to make it look like the NS Rampage and to have changed the flesh color to match. Mostly this would have made it look like its own character and not another Mutt (as it uses Mutt's head with even the same hair color).

As the figure is, though, Hasbro can call it whatever it wants, it's Heavy Metal.

Just adding in again, if anyone has an extra or unwanted Speed Metal, I will buy it from you.

These SRO figures were some of the first to come out of the Midnight Chinese.
