Halloween is not that far away, and the costumes are showing up online. I was looking at G.I.Joe costumes just to see what they have and I came across this:

http://www.buycostumes.com/GI-Joe-Cobra ... sc24774744

Some sites are saying "from the Rise of Cobra movie", but it's obviously not. Now this site is saying it's officially licensed. I wonder how it actually looks. These sites has a way of making these things look better than they are. If it's decent, it might be neat to have. I won't be dressing up for Halloween this year I guess since I don't have any place to go, but until the next movie it might be the only chance to get an easy out of the box Cobra Commander outfit.

I picked up a "The Doctor" mask at a local party store. It is officially licensed, only GI Joe item I could find there. Also grabbed a wig to match the on screen character/figure. I think it looks pretty good in person, could also work for a Sith costume. Looks much better on a person than my cheapy mannequin head. My regular cameras rechargeable battery is dead so I had to take a pic with my cell. Now I just need to find a jacket to match the movie/figure, will not be wearing bondage underneath to match the figure however.

Chaos, can you give us some different angles on the helmet, and some thoughts on its overall construction and quality?

If that's officially licensed then that is officially awesome. I may get the dagger just because.

I found the helmet at Party City here in town. It's pretty much what I was expecting. Not too great but pretty neat. It's one of those "better than I had" type of things as in I didn't have anything before getting this. The helmet is 2 piece and velcros together so there is a seam around the center. The chrome mask velcros in place as well, but it's less noticable. I guess you could glue the helmet and it'd look better, but all parts are made of the usual flimsy plastic that kid halloween masks are made of. It's a neat display piece though and cheaper than buying the $200 one on Ebay I guess. It was $19.99 for it.

I also grabbed a "Doctor" mask that ke7bo showed us. I figure it's $24.99 and if I get a wig and a decent maniquin head, I could make a life size bust. It would be another neat display piece too. Not really much to it. It's made of all rubber with velcro in the back and a string so you could put it on and wear. The tube on the front is a hard plastic and the "breathing area" has some blister plastic inserted for shipping and can be left in for display. It helps hold everything more in position.

I'd like to get the Cobra Commander outfit though. Not to wear but to set up as a display. Heck even stuffing it full of newspaper would look fine and maybe put some PVC pipes in there too so it'll hold it's self up. That would be a neat standing piece in the middle of a collection. I'd just like to have a more solid helmet.

I won in an online game of bingo and was celebrating...

The mask is made from plastic.

You can see great out of it too.

The costume is cloth and also has velcro to attach across the chest and it comes with the gloves and boot covers...I am not going to use the boot covers though...that would be..silly.
(as if dressing like Cobra Commander isn't)

Overall the costume is a rated "B" only because of the plastic mask. I was thinking of buying the one on ebay because it was a real helmet...but I think the plastic one will do.

My brother is actually going to scuplt a Destro mask made of latex..I just have to give him the clay.

At least we're doing better than Transformers fans:

http://www.buycostumes.com/Transformers ... etail.aspx

$100, and it still looks like something a fourth grader made from old shoe boxes and construction paper.

That would look so cool with a Dolly Parton or Marilyn Monroe wig, like the Doctor grabbed the wrong one by mistake...

Hey if it saves me all the sewing and other work that I had to do on my Storm Shadow and Flint costumes then I might just have to pick up that Cobra Commander uniform.

I know a plastic helmet might seem like a bad thing at first but after running into some blue shirts who used metal helmets I'm sort of glad I went with a plastic helmet for my blue shirt costume.

Well like I was saying, you could glue the helmet together. It's a nice connection from piece to piece where you shouldn't have any ripples that would totally ruin the look. If you glued it, you'd still have the seam but it wouldn't be too visible. I would imagine you could do some sanding, painting and such to maybe hide it even more. I built a vacuform table recently and would like to try actually making a new helmet for it. I can use this one to get the shape. If it doesn't work though, I'll be fine sticking with this for a display piece.
