I finally got around to opening my Cobra Gunship and found that I didn't have the missiles or bombs!! It's been several week now so it's not like I can just take it back and get another one. Anyone have any suggestions like will Hasbro do a Kenner and replace missing parts?

They will send you a prepaid mailing label & have you send it in for a completely new one.

In cases like this i think its totall ok to go buy a new one, then go back the next day and return it without the part you need.

I disagree...I think it would be better to return the one that is missing parts, tell them it is missing parts and exchange it for a new one so nobody else gets screwed over by taking home a vehicle that is missing parts.

I think it'd be a little less screw-over-y just to contact Hasbro directly like Goldbug said. They'll send you a prepaid mailing label and you just send in your toy and when you send it in, they get you a replacement.

I did that with my Cybertron Metroplex with no problems.

Did you check the packaging really well? Hasbro has been kinda sneaky with stuff like this, taping it to the bottom of the cardboard insert etc.

But yeah, you're totally justified taking it back. Tell 'em it was a gift or something and it was just now opened.

Assuming you still have the receipt, you can take it back to the store and report missing parts. It doesn't matter if it took this long to open it, it is still within 90 days which is the standard for most retail stores. However, if you don't have the receipt, I think it is morally acceptable to buy another and return the defective one with the new receipt. Just as long as you tell them it is missing parts. That way they don't put it back on the shelf. You don't want to see anyone else get screwed, but you got screwed yourself. Sure, Hasbro will replace the parts but it will take them forever to do it and it is a hassle. A store return is in, out, and done.

Trouble with this one is, it's the red helmet Firefly and I haven't seen another red helmet around, so taking it back to the store would get me a black helmet. But I threw out the reciept and it wasn't until this weekend I had a chance to open it. Yeah I looked to see if it was taped somewhere or anything like that.

I'm guessing the easiest thing really would be to get another one, take out the pieces I need, then tell the store it had missing parts. Technically it wouldn't be any different than bringing this one back that does have missing parts. Only thing is, I get to keep the red helmet figure this way.

But thanks for the replies. I just wasn't sure if Hasbro carried over the "We Care" thing Kenner always did. I figured if they did it would be modified. I remember Kenner used to send just about anything if you had proof of purchase and wrote to them.

That's the way I'd do it. Morality shouldn't really come into play- common sense should. Because if you had the receipt, you'd be doing the exact same thing- returning it as defective and getting a new one. The only difference is the date on the receipt. Swap your Firefly and return it ;)

How could you possibly think that would be easier? He has to repackage the one he opened to a presentable shape, and find the receipt in most cases assuming he still has it. It is obviously easier to just buy a new one, keep the receipt, gently open it to just take out the missles, and return the new one and say THAT was the one that is missing parts.

Either way I think it's best to make sure it looks obviously opened so it can't be retaped and stuck back on the shelf. Maybe take the action figure backing off the box and just drop him in so there's no figure visible, plus maybe a tear somewhere too. Anything that'll keep it from being resold. Wal-Mart is usually a little better about not reselling if it looks too much like a returned item. K-Mart just doesn't care and Target you can't ever tell what they'll do. Toys R Us would take it that they need to not order the next stock or something stupid.
