I was reading RnR's original filecard and it says that he is an expert in all Warsaw Pact light and heavy machine guns. Also, Snake Eyes is an expert at all NATO and Warsaw Pact small arms.

Anyone have a list of these. I can't seem to find anything online.

The Warsaw Pact is a treaty of sorts between group of Communist Nations in Europe. It was signed in the 50's. Warsaw Pact weapons are simply the weapons those countries used. This includes the AK-47 (and AK-74), the RPGs and the Dragonov sniper rifle for example. It also includes tanks and helicopters and stuff like that too.

The NATO weapons list would include all weapons and equipment that are used by countries that are in NATO. If you have an old set of BDU's, they have a NATO equipment number on the tag on the inside. This is so people would know how to order them if they needed them I guess. I know that the British fatigues have the same kind of label inside.

Anyway, when they say that on the file card, they are basically saying that these guys have foreign weapons training, and would be able to pick up these weapons and operate effectively with them. That's what I think anyway.

I hope this helps. We used to have to learn all this stuff when Russia and China were still our biggest enemies before 9/11.

I actually did take a foreign weapons familiarization course up at Aberdeen Proving Grounds back in the 90s before they closed it down. So you could say I'm "familiar" with a dozen or so (former) Warsaw Pact small arms, even though we didn't qualify by Army standards -- I am or have been a "qualified expert" on the M16A1, M16A2, M4, M249, M2 1911A1, .38 cal pistol, and M9, at one time or another over the last 19 years, though :P

But keep in mind that although the filecards added a small dose of realism to the mythos, most of the items listed on them was pure fantasy. You don't qualify on all NATO and Warsaw pact small arms (those are hundreds and hundreds of pieces of equipment), you also don't qualify Expert on the K-Bar, Crossbow, and Garrote  , females don't go to Ranger training and Warrant Officers aren't E-6s. I could go on, but my Carpal-tunnel Syndrome is acting up..... ( old "war" wound ;) )

If you want to compile a list, it'd be a pain in the ass. NATO countries are pretty well documented, so you can try to see which weapons are used by each country's military -- you'll notice Israel isn't a NATO country, so despite the over-abundance of UZIs used in Joe lore, the UZI doesn't count. And the only time I've ever seen any US soldiers with an UZI (I was one of them) was at the foreign weapon course.

Same with Warsaw Pact - basically every country that used to be behind the Iron Curtain was a member of it. Most weapons were Soviet-made, but each country had their own as well.

Stan, I hate you ;)

Chief, you will also see US Soldier use Foreign weapons at SERE. You forgot that. That's where I shot the UZI. I would have screamed for joy if I hadn't been doing my Snake Eyes impression.

Dan, I love you.

On the subject of Russian weapons, do any figures come with the OTs-14 Groza or the Vintorez? If not, is Marauder going to make these? I've had a soft spot for them ever since I played STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and STALKER: Clear Sky.

So is the UZI even a good weapon? I know Chuck Norris can snipe with two of them on semi-auto while wearing a sleeveless denim shirt, but is it actually accurate/have a good stopping power?

Most of them are just 9mm or other pistol calibers.

The Uzi's fairly decent for close quarters. It fires a 9x19 parrabelum round (9mm pistol bullets) but it has kind of a wide spread. It's good for emptying a hallway, and short enough to not get hung up on things.

Just noticed the ROC Crimson Neo Viper comes with what appears to be the Groza. Hmm.

UZI's are like anything that's full auto - it only works if you REALLY know what you're doing.

Full auto is typically inaccurate, "spray-n-pray" firing that is probably better for suppression fire or against a massive concentrated enemy who can't get out of their own way.

"Short, controlled bursts" is the way to go.

And yes, firing a Thompson on full auto is a religious experience, btw.
