I noticed recently at work and on Amazon that the new dvd sets for Joe and the Transformers are surprisingly affordable (24.99 and 19.97 respectively). Does anyone have any info as to why? I remember coughing out $40-50 a pop on the Rhino dvds. Are there fewer episodes per set? I've heard that the series have been remastered. Anyone have any info?

Maybe because of BluRay?

mainly because the first seasons of both cartoon were relatively small.

Transformers season one I think is only 16 episodes (including the first 3 episode miniseries)

G.I.joe is slightly larger (including the five episode miniseries)

also, I think there are more extras on the larger complete boxed set than in the single series sets.

Interestingly, the next season sets are twce as large. I wonder if they will be split like the rhino sets, or complete.

Also, costs can go down as well. Its cheaper to reproduce DVDs now than it was 5 years ago. Also, Rhino might have had higher licensing fees to pay Hasbro for the rights to produce the sets. And Amazon buys in bulk so they get a lower wholesale cost and might have a better deal with Shout! Factory than they do/did with Rhino. There are any number of factors to consider for why the price is lower.

well, the 19.99 and 24.99 price was across the board (or the industry was just competing for new release prices)

I just wonder if they'll stay in print the duration of the series releases. I'd rather wait until they release them all before buying rather than how it went with the Rhino assuming I even bother. I wouldn't want to get so far along and then they no longer have the license. I'll probably only get what I don't have anyway though.

This is why I'm going to go ahead and spring for the collector's set. That way I know I'll have all of the episodes (Sunbow anyway) and not have to worry about whether or not they complete the sets later on. But seeing as how they are putting out a full series collector's set makes me think they intend and probably will put out all the individual sets. I mean if they already have them mastered and duped for the collector's set its just a matter of repackaging them for the individual releases.

plus....according to the interview in Toyfare, the Colloectors set has different or extra "Etras" than the individual season sets ( i remember reading someing about the Transformers info clips, G.I.Joe commercials, as well as the PSAs.)

I went ahead and order the full GIJoe collector's set as well. I just didn't want to chance not getting the last part of season 2 again. The guy at the comic book store was talking to me about the Transformers discs since season 1 is already out on those. I wasn't planning on getting them because I already have the full Rhino set. Then he starts telling me about how they cleaned them up a lot and the colors are better. It got me thinking but I think I will just stick with what I have. I don't want to shell out another $140 for the TF set as well.
