With set 5 of the DVD series being so hard to find, has anybody considered casiting the last peice to the MASS device?

Are you and 10-20 other people willing to pay $10-$20 for a reproduction Beam emitter? I'm not, and I doubt many people would be either...and I can't immagine being able to cast a quality reproduction for much less than that though.

Casting seems like an easy solution...but until you've tried it yourself, you really don't realize the costs in time and materials

Yeah casting would be a little up there. It'd be within the same price to hit Ebay, plus you'd get the figures to go with it. I'm in the process of casting an item I'll be offering soon, and it's the casting/resin that's putting the price up there higher than I'd like to see it offered at. I think it'll be worth it though as it'll be a life size prop/replica. The beam emitter being small wouldn't sit as well with the cost I'm sure it'd require.

I will second that. Most of teh stuff I have offered for sale has been the result of me casting or making an original for myself.

Have I considered casting it? Yes. Would it be a pain in the butt? Probably. Would I still do it? Yes. The problem is I don't have one because I STILL can not find the set myself. If someone wants to lend me theirs, I can make a mold on it. I can figure out a price once I see the part and get an idea for what it will require. Or if someone wants to post some pics of all angles of the part as well as dimensions, I can figure out an approximate price. If you guys want me to give it a shot, post here and let me know. I will go on record and say that turn around time for me is VERY slow. I have a full time job and I am casting my own figure parts for my JC.com exclusive Con figure which takes priority right now.

The other thing you have to consider is the beam crystal is clear plastic. Unless you're willing to get one solid piece with the crystal cast as part of the emitter, you'd need to make 2 molds and cast the crystal in clear which isn't easy. Clear resin shows bubbles unless you use a pressure pot and even then castings aren't always completely bubble free.

Phil, if you're serious about casting this let me know. I have a set you could borrow when you're ready.

Marauder might be able to pull it off. He already has the know how, I think he could put them out at his store for much less than $20.

Just an idea.

Doubtful. While Marauder John COULD make them....there is no way the demand is high enough for it to make economical sense. Plus his tooling costs would be about 10 times the cost to build a casting set from scratch and do it yourself. Also if you've noticed a pattern with John's products...they all come in one color....and the Beam Emitter without a translucent Crystal would be really lame.

Plus there's a HUGE list of items Marauder Inc. needs to make, that they'll sell a ton more of before they ever get to somthing as insignificant as the MASS device Beam Emitter.

I would rather have a source for chromed cc heads. There are lots that I would like to replace with chrome. The vs1. resolute. Artic....might be some money in making that.

Do you just want the existing heads Chromed? Or do you want reproductions of the "Best of the 80's" CC head that have been chromed?

www.chrometechusa.com is a great option to have your own items chromed. I'm sure you could get the heads done for less than $5 per part. durability might be questionable because of the soft plastic used in the base head.
