This is a really hard one, there are so many great vehicles in this lineup!

The Desert Fox is probably one of the best Joe vehicles - Seats 4, equipped with both missiles and a cannon (a MOUNTED manned cannon at that! has a cool looing computer station in the back, cool 6 wheel drive (with simulated forward suspension)
(although it does come with the oddest colored driver with the worst name....)

Warthog
A great troop carrier, but an even better piece of Armored hardware! 3 designated cockpits (I LOVE how the computer station faces a different diferent direction!), Missiles (Or torpedoes!), enough troop space to hold a fire team, plus it comes with an all new uniformed Sgt. Slaughter!
Plus, it is rumored t float (although I bever tested it.)

Mean Dog
I once listed this as a Crappy Vehicle,..due to the lack of realism. However, after OWNING one... I had to eat crow.
Great vehicle! and Im not talking just about the ablity to split into three vehicles. Seats 5 , great armored vehicle, especially in a desert setting, equippes with a main cannon that doubles as a stationary artillary (although how they get that thing off the vehicle is beyond me)
Plus it comes with Wildcard (anyone who reads the comic knows how funy this guy is!)

Phantom X-19
One of the few Joe fighters that Appears to be in scale, comes with cruise missiles, a two seater cockpit. realistic engine breaks, and cool looking retractible guns... fits the bill for a perfect stealth bomber.
However, in my opinion, the fighter suffers from the same problem as the Raven,.. its too big for its play value.

RPV
If its supposed to be a remore pilot vehicle,... whats up with the driver's seat?
I honestly don't like this vehicle, mainly for the fact the "Pilot" would be burnt to a crisp every time the missile fires. And once you fire the missile... what use does it have?

Skystorm X-wing Chopper
has the potential to be a great vehicle... but the chopper/ fighter design doesn't work well in my opinion. the rotor blades are too small, theres no tail rotor, and where's the landing wheels/struts? Without a rar tail rotor, The "VTOL" function wouldnt work, and the wings are too small for a Jet.

Swampmasher
Odd looking vehicle,. but cool nonetheless the tri-wheels are wierd, but would be functional in the swamp. I do like the Missile launcher placement.

if I did have to pick a favorite....

ROLLING THUNDER

"nobody beats G.I.joe, G.I.joe Rolling thunder!!!!"

like the description says, this is a battleship on wheels! a HUGE vehicle,/ Ballistic Missile launcher (which is what I use it for)

While the Rolling Thunder is cool, ok very cool, it is one of those vehicles that doens't know what it wants to be. Is the Havoks big brother? Maybe its a nuclear missile launcher? Or is a super tank? Its all kinds of destruction on wheels but I never knew what it was. That is probably why I didn't get one until a few years ago.

What makes this poll hard is that it pits two of my all time favorite vehicles against each other. KoP already covered why the Desert Fox and the Warthog are awesome. Both got heavy play from me and still occasionally roll out fully manned. They are everything that makes GI Joe fun. I ended up giving the slight edge to the Warthog because it carried more troops and had a really nice Sgt. Slaughter figure for a driver.

I went with the Rolling Thunder. Although the days of REALLY immense vehicles were pretty well gone, this was still a very cool vehicle with tons of features and "play value".

I'd give a close second to the Phantom X-19, but I had a few structural problems with mine that made me question its manufacturing quality just a little bit. Still a very impressive design, and the pilot is one of my favorites -- you know him -- uh -- good ol' -- whatshisname... ;-)

Desert Fox !!

Love the man-able gun. 6x6. and the whip antenna with the commo station on the back.
Skidmark is a great mold. I never had any issues with his codename, and didn't even know that term for the other term until college. I unlike many apparently learned to wipe my butt at a young age.

I went with the Phantom X-19 and only one I see :shifty: . I love jets so this got the mark.
I also do like the Desert Fox and bought one off the marketplace to make into the Forest Fox which I'll post when I get the roll bars and such to finish it.
I've never owned a Warthog but I'm definately looking to buy one in the future here.
The Skystorm Chopper I liked after reading a article in the Popular Mechanics or Science about how they were making a chopper/jet in this style. You'd just have to pretend the rotors are a little thicker than they are on the chopper part to think about it though.

You have some company now.

Phantom X-19 gets my vote too, even though I was only able to obtain one as an adult. A futuristic design that is both beautiful and semi-believable (except for the overly forward cockpit). It even looks like the aircraft used in the movie Stealth (though that might not be the greatest movie to be associated with).

I've always wanted a Rolling Thunder, but as Pluv pointed out, it's a Jack-of-many-trades but master of none. I think the ICBM missles are cool, but doesn't make a whole ot of sense for GI Joe who are supposed to be defending the world against Cobra, not launching ballistic missiles at other countries. Come to think of it, this would have been an awesome Cobra vehicle.

The Warthog APV was one of my most used vehicles in the day, as it made a fantastic personell carrier. However, I've always disliked those large orange torpedo/missles on the top. If it had come with a rack launcher like the Wolverine or a chain gun, it could have easily been the #1 vehicle of this year for me.

My brother had the Swampmasher, and I must say this vehicle was the best and worst of GI Joe in one vehicle. Best because it had an awesome minigun, well detailed engine, cool futuristic triple wheel design, and nice buggy design. Worst because the colors totally ruined this vehicle and negated all the positives I just mentioned.

As Rougetiger mentioned, I also remember reading the Popular Mechanics article about the vehicle similar to the Skystorm Chopper, however as mentioned the toy fell far short of the real thing. The fact that Windmill was one of the lamer vehicle drivers out there didn't help.

It surprised me to see how many Desert Fox fans are out there; I never liked this vehicle and didn't know anybody else (until now) who did. It just didn't have "the look". Skidmark' is a great figure mold cursed with a terrible headsculpt and nickname.

Everything Kingofpain said about Mean Dog applies to me as well; I thought this was a garbage vehicle until I finally got one. It doesn't work well for me seperated into smaller vehicles, but like the Maggot, as a whole it is a pretty cool vehicle to bulk up the Joe fleet.

To me the RPV was and is a junk vehicle, although in reality the use of unmanned vehicles has become a staple of the armed forces.

Surprisingly, after such a poor year in 1987, this year turned out to be a pretty good year for Joe vehicles.

Tough call between the Rolling Thunder and the Warthog. For looks, RT, but my vote went to the Warthog for play.

Desert Fox is awesome. Swampmasher has super play value, too.

RPV is ju-unk! And I had two!!!

Swampmasher. I've had so much fun with this vehicle, it got a lot of playtime when I was a kid. Great gun, two missiles and the nice tri-wheeled tracks for rough terrain makes it my winner.

The Warthog is second, mainly because I didn't own one in my youth. I do have one now, and it's an awesome vehicle. Troop carrier, tank, Sgt. Slaughter, missiles, machine gun, this one has it all. Too bad it came into my collection this late....
