G.I. Joe - A Real American Hero: Season 1, Part 1 is going to be available as a 4-DVD set, running approximately 700 minutes, starting on July 21st. That's a wee bit after the 4th of July celebration, but a better schedule for tying it in with the new film. Video will be full frame, and audio in English, but no other specs or pricing info is available yet. Nor is package art, but stay tuned for that.

As for bonus material: well, let's just say that the info provided to retailers makes it look like Shout! has some VERY ambitious plans for the extras on this collection (as they do for Transformers, of course). However, it's very clear that nothing mentioned there is actually set in stone thus far.

Hopefully they make it to the point of releasing the second half of season 2 this time. :-/

Great news! I passed on the earlier releases, but I tend to watch a lot more TV these days, or at least frequently have it running in the background. I'd love me some more classic Joe to pop in on occasion!

Agreed. They put out full seasons of 1-hour 24 episode shows. Why can't they just put out a full season at once. Better yet, just put the whole thing out there in one neat package. I already have the Rhino discs. If they did the whole series in 1 shot, I would buy it. But since they are piecemealing it together, I am only looking to buy that missing piece. Their loss.

I have to wonder if those that bought the trade paperbacks of the Marvel comic series feel the same way. The ones from a few years ago ended after 5 volumes or 50 comics. Now they are starting over again. I just got the first volume and the second is on the way. I didn't get the ones from a few years ago which is why I am getting these ones now. They are also a lot cheaper than the ones from a few years ago.

I certainly hope they will be releasing all of them this time.

I passed on getting them before, and now I'm kicking myself for not buying them. I've been reading through that Unauthorized GIJOE book and thinking about some custom ideas. ('Upset Armor' Zartan, Cartoon Major Bludd, Cartoon Baroness, etc)

I heard from he Transformer set... that the production company behind THIS set is the same as the ones from the last rhino set... so that's probably why the format is the same.

This set's being produced by Shout! Factory, which is an independant company who works with Sony Music (the former holder of the GIJoe license). Shout! Factory was formed by former founders and affiliates, but has no actual ties to Rhino Records.

Rhino is a subsidiary of Warner Music, and was sub-licensing the Sunbow cartoons from Sony when they released their sets in the early part of the decade.

From my experience, the mismanagement and eventual decline of Rhino is completely absent from Shout! Factory. They produce a lot of niche and cult level material with love and respect, and their prices are competitve for the most part. Their release of Transformers Season 1 has an MSRP of around 30 bucks, easily half of what Rhino asked for the same 16 episodes 10 years ago.

Between their cheesy horror catalogue, their continuation (and vast improvement) of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection (also formerly a Rhino licensed series) and unprecedented/highly requested series like My So-Called Life and Parker Lewis Can't Lose... Shout! has done absolutely no wrong by me. I trust this release of the GIJoe series will be at least as good as the Rhino version, far better if they can produce the extras they want in time.

All I want is the fill ins to complete what was started. I don't want to rebuy all the episodes I have. Plus even if I didn't have the Rhino releases I'd wait and see if this company ran the full set before bothering to get any. If the movie does fine, this should sell, but still I don't need it.

I am not rebuying anything. All I want are the few season 2 episodes I am missing.

I agree on the Season 2 parts that I missed as well, the first season I have already.

BUUUUT I worry that all of us who have season 1 from the last release and that thier might not be a market for it again, thus sales are low and Season 2 isn't released, I think they should have went with Season 2 first myself.

However I missed most the Transformers seasons so I am glad to grab them up.

That's what I'm thinking as well.

one unforseen bonus is that with the upcomming re-relase, the prices of the older Rhino sets may actually drop to reachable levels.

.....although that may suck for the sellers.
