It was in one of the Toyfare videos i think it was where I heard him say it and I just wanted to slap the dude for something so dumb (btw, this is a figure of speech. In NO way am i threatening, or htinking about harming somebody with any sort of physical violence)

Anyway, as most of you know, and as most of you feel, I think the new PIT is about as lacking in collector appeal as it could possibly be lacking based on the pics. However, this has 0 to do with the issue I have with what was stated. If this was in regards to say the ROCC which was simply a brilliant vehicle (at least for collectors instead of kids) it would amount to the same lunacy.

So this guy, in presenting the PIT said, (paraphrasing) "This is the movie HQ, etc, bla, bla, bla and it has never had a toy of it done before." 8-O 8-O 8-O 8-O

Ok, now granted it has never had a toy of it done before, but making a toy and calling it "The PIT" doesn't mean you have accomplished any of the said goal which your statement implies you did.

Seriously, if it was that easy, we could just take the 92 HQ, repaint it and call it "The PIT" and say, "it has never had a toy of it released before."

Do that with anything. Take a Snake Eyes fig with a Cobra Cape and call it "Batman joins the Joes"
"WE've never had Batman released as a Joe fig before."

Hasbro has never made the PIT.

Show me a boxed item that says PIT on it.

They've had a few HQ's - but nothing ever called the PIT. So in that regard, the Hasbro rep is 100% correct.

Unless I'm missing your point.

Also, they're not making these toys as collector-friendly items. They're grooming new fans of G.I. Joe based on the movie license. Which, will ensure there are Joe fans for years to come. The "Collector" items that are being put out for collectors are the Sideshow items, statues, etc. I don't think Hasbro will mind anyone "collecting" the movie items, but that's not their intent. The intent is purely for kids to want to play with them.

I get what Raspy is saying. You're looking at it from a strictly logical stand point Mike, but Raspy is being irked on an emotional stand point. He desires the PIT as shown in the comics (or PIT II) and what we are being given is "PIT v8 - Movie Edition" - which is far removed from what the original PIT looked like. So when this rep says "that has never been doen before" he implies that PIT-ME is associated with the PIT or PIT II of our desires.

This is like when your craving Rocky Road Ice Cream and you mom hands you a Dole Strawberry Fruit Pop, then gloats to her girlfriends about what a great day you two had at the park sharing a desert. It wasn't a good day, it was frozen fruit when you wanted ice cream! And now she's publicaly vying for mommy points after this insolent act of defiance!

Well, we've never had a gunship before either. I agree with raz, though, we've never had a toy of the PIT, but this thing isn't the pit, either. its the Michael Bay version of the pit, of course, we've never had a toy of most of the stuff in the movie. But that boat with wheels is not what I picture when I think of joe HQ.

Besides, I would have remember something as terrible as the PIT. Then again, I think if it didn't transform, it would be half as bad, by pictures anyway.

Just to throw something else in here, to say that, "This is the movie HQ and there has never been a toy of it before" -- Well, excuse me, but it seems to me that ANYTHING featured in this live-action movie has never had a toy before.

Yea I messed up with that quote (angry and all :rotfl: ) I meant to write "the pit instead of movie HQ"

Even still Cabanjack understands my point, though i don't necessarily need a PIT and am not trying to tell Hasbro how to do their job and decide on what sells or doesn't, but trying to sort of "con" unknowing folk into thinking Hasbro has just recreated the original millenium falcon down to the holo-chess board (i.e. cardboard flimsy ping pong table) only for joes, is just wrong.

I mean it may be right in terms of sales or appeal, but it doesn't sit well with me as a fan.

I understand why they put "PIT" on it (in fact it is a sort of nod which is ok i guess, but to me it has always mattered what is inside the box not outside, with the outside just being a potential cherry on top)

but it is the "PIT" in name only and has absolutely 0 relevance to the original except that both are representative of some sort of command center. They could have called the MBB, 82 HQ, 92 HQ, ROCC, and a few other smaller vehics the "PIT" but it still would make about as much sense as a poopy flavored lolly-pop (btw, that movie had a nod to Cobra that sat way better with me than this one)

and Mike I have 0 problems with what Hasbro is doing in terms of being kid oriented. This is important no doubt, and as I wrote before I am and was open minded to whatever they do with the movie (even thugh it is not old school friendly it is still trying to bridge a gap and that is good either way), and in fact, I think the Night Raven for instance is really cool with the handles, but it just seems ridiculous to me that they use a "collector friendly" name to try and sort of con collectors into thinking this is an item for them as opposed to kids.

They could have if they are going the kid route used a more kid oriented market strategy name.

They could have called it the "Cave" or "Vortex" or whatever names KIDS like cause it is a product for them.

Of course its their company (though i am sure plenty Hasbro reps will say it is "our" company) and they have the right to do with it as they please, but i feel this was a poor attempt at trying to reach the old school base.

I actually agree with Rasputin here. In calling it "The Pit", they are speaking to us, as well as kids. And we all know the Movie HQ isn't The Pit.

But but.. At least they're making toys :)

Honestly, I don't know who they are speaking to by calling it that. They call it "The Pit" and collectors expect to see a multi-level underground base. No, it isn't that. Kids see a mobile base on wheels and wonder "Why is this called The Pit?" Whoever they were making it for, it really doesn't make any sense.

Agreed. A "pit" to me means an excavation or quarry (i.e. below ground surface). Hasbro should have renamed the screwed up love boat on wheels to something else.

Gotta agree that the Pitt is a terrible name for it since it is a mobile base. What is worse is haveing rocks inside a mobile base, actually the whole thing is a clusterf$%^ :shifty:

Maybe the toy is a scaled down version of what's in the movie, maybe in the movie it is underground, and then later it does "transform" into the mobile base thing.
