A while back, we had a discussion on whether or not the Fang was feasible in the real world. This thing is pretty close, I have to admit, and I don't think you'd be able to arm it very well, but it's certainly the smallest fully functional, one-man helicopter I've ever seen, and it's still 20 feet long.

Anyhoo,

I think the main issue with the Fang is lack of head covering, which this one has.

After I posted the link here, I showed the video to my wife and said "you know I'm getting one of these, right?"

She replied" Good luck with that. You realize you weigh about 90% what that thing does, right? Would it even get off the ground?" :verymad:

Problem is that what you've "found" is a Helicopter.

The F.A.N.G. ( Fully Armed Negator Gyrocopter ) is a Gyrocopter..aka an Autogyro

Obviously the F.A.N.G must be powered by a jet engine...but the flight principles should still be the same.

Problem with that is, what the fang is is a helicopter, the words they used in it's name to make a snake related acronym notwithstanding, because it has a tail rotor. That was the sticking point before.

I always thought the FANG's body was based on the Rotorway Javelin:

Several years before the G.I.Joe line even started and the FANG came out, I stopped at a yard sale locally that had so much weird stuff it even made the newspapers. One of these -- and I wish I had taken a picture of it -- was a one-man, open cockpit helicopter -- maybe it was a gyrocopter -- that was being sold for $10,000. But my memory does tell me that it bore a fair resemblance to the FANG in a number of respects. The major difference I recall is that it was yellow.

For what all that's worth... :-/

That would be about the size of a 1:1 scale F.A.N.G. if it were to be made for practical use. Just bulk up the lower cockpit a bit, lose the canopy, add a laser cannon on the front, a few rockets on the skids, paint it black and away we go.

Well, I wouldn't think the FANG would be fast enough to require a windshield, and rotor wash isn't really a problem in the air. The main requirement for an enclosed cockpit would probably be FAA/air safety regulations, something that terrorists are not really bound by.
