I like pizza.

Honestly, I prefer J-Man's displays. I have 2 of the first he did and they are very nicely done. I also like that I can get something custom made (which I plan to do, I promise) to my specifications which this new company doesn't seem to offer. So that's where my money is going when I need something like this.

Is AFD's product inferior to J-Man's? I don't know and I don't think any of us know unless you have a sample that you'd like to tell us about. It's just different, intended for a different type of collector (they have all 6" figures in their promo photos so I don't think us 1:18 guys are their target demo). That's all. Until someone actually has one in hand and can tell us about it we'll just have to take them at face value.

Personally I'm sticking with J-Man's stuff. I know the quality, I like the way he does business and I like supporting a fellow Joe fan. I'm voting with the only thing I have that truly matter in this issue, my hard earned dollar.

As far as Cap's stuff... while I haven't looked into it I think his work may be out of my price range at this moment in time. I'd LOVE to have a Cap dio but until I figure out what I want and what it would cost me that little wish will have to live in dream land along with my hope of a revival of the 8" Joe line and a world where "LASER BLASTS" are allowed to roam free.

This has beem a really fascinating conversation. It's like knowing a little bit about American History and then watching a couple of PHDs discuss it.

I know juuuusssttt enough to keep up...but not enough to add anything.

I have a JMan background, it is fantastic and exactly as described, actually much more colorful than it looks online.

I'm not gonna worry about AFD, because for me, JMan is a member of this community, so even if his product was only equal to theirs, I'd still prefer to deal with him, he's always been super cool. The fact that his stuff is solid and looks much better than AFD, well. . .

Besides, until AFD gets a sexy spokesmodel like Cjack, they are always gonna come up short.

But that being said, I once saw a town that cap had made, well, a grocery store, I'm not sure who on here ended up with it. But I cry myself to sleep some days thinking about how I need one of those, lol. But like it has been said, that is really outside the price range of most of us. Something akin to asking an artist to create a one of a kind.

Besides, one day, I'll get my cobra base from Jman, :)

Even Camper and Justin themselves have the dios that were made over five years ago. Not bad for a foamboard product.

For the record, Cap, the stuff you made for me is well over 10 years old now. Other than a few minor spots where the glue has failed, it's as solid and sturdy as the day I got it.

I still feel like I ripped you off on the deal, you don't charge enough.

I am a foam core enthusiast myself, buildings I've made are often quite sturdy, and a bit of sealer usually makes them quite water proof.

though i can see either technique as something that benefits the community as a whole.

I am however discouraged about some of the comments about AFD just because they post on JC doesn't mean they aren't apart of the Joe fan community. I personally prefer some of J mans layouts, but I do think AFD has some decent back drops as well. A lot of folks have similar ideas on things they'd like to do, for the most part we are all western oriented adults of roughly the same age, with slightly varied backgrounds, it's reasonable to assume that we come to similar conclusions in a lot of areas. I am a live and let live consumer, if J-Man has something I want and can afford I'll buy it, if the others guy do then I'll buy it too.

plus that's a three dan in a row response.

Oh ok, so now someone is going to take my idea and charge more for it?

Well anyway, I figure I'll make the post to say they're out there too. They want $20 for theirs, mine are $15. I don't like the way they have theirs put together. Eventually the adhesive will wear off.

I am new to this forum, but have been poking around reading threads for a year or so. I finally decided to join when I saw this thread. I have purchased a few Action Figure Displays from this company and have had them for over a year. I have to say that I believe some people in this thread are a little off the mark with these displays and have jumped the gun on being harsh.

To start, they are nice displays and are not cheap. They use Gatorboard which is sturdy and has not bowed or warped like MANY of the other displays I have had in the past. The adhesive they use for assembly is insane. It's defanitely meant to be perminent. In fact, on the first one I bought, I tried to take it apart a few months later and it ripped the liner of the Gatorboard. I’ve made my own for years and have to say that these are better, they don't look home-made at all. Plus buying these frees up a lot more of my time ;-) .

As for competition, I’ve seen J-Man’s displays on several forums and in fact a fellow collector friend of mine owns one of the GI Joe displays. I think the dios displays are really cool and like them as well. The thing is, they are just totally different. For me, I collect larger figures mostly and the AFD displays work better. The idea for a display is NOT new, original, or yours. There have been others like Ulturama, Dida Displays, Actionscapes…etc. There is room for multiple companies. I agree with people in this thread that stated they admire anyone who turns a hobby into a business. From looking at their website and reading their bio, I can see that they have worked hard to turn their hobby into something. Obviously they’ve been at it for a while since they are on several websites and in a few toy magazines. I just think that your reaction was one of a defensive maneuver.

If anyone is interested in a different type of review, I found one here http://www.poeghostal.com/2009/01/revie ... plays.html

So thanks for listening to my very first post. Not sure how much I’ll post in the future. I’m more of an observer. But sometimes I feel like responding. This time I did and I hope I haven’t offend anyone.

Happy Toy Collecting!
