Oh ok, so now someone is going to take my idea and charge more for it?

http://www.actionfiguredisplays.com/home.html

Well anyway, I figure I'll make the post to say they're out there too. They want $20 for theirs, mine are $15. I don't like the way they have theirs put together. Eventually the adhesive will wear off.

Also, their images look like they were all made with that blender 3d tool by someone who had completed about half a semester of a community college design program. I saw that site earlier on TNI. With that quality and those prices, I don't think you have much to worry about.

Yeah, with theirs, I think I could do just as well making my own (and in fact, have). I think yours have a little more zip to them.

Get used to it Joe-Joe...anytime you have a good idea, and put it out on the 'net, expect some one to jump on it, and try to find a way to do it for less.

All I can suggest is to accept it, don't let it affect you, and keep on doing your own thing. If you let something like this get to you, it'll really mess with you and eventually start to affect your own work.

It's part of business unfortunately, and it does suck. Just do your best work and concentrate on what you're doing.

Joe -

You shouldn't have given these copy cat losers the satisfaction of having their own titled thread. They're actually pretty sad. Nice little scrap book page prints for single action figures. Good luck with that douches. These guys are too short sighted to see beyond the initial ideas you've offered when "testing" the market. If all they can do is copy cat than they'll be gone in a years time. They've built a new "business" around what you did to test your machines. You and I have talked about some great ideas and those ideas are where the real business is. Those displays were just the start right, so you can blow them out of the water with some of the other concepts we discussed.

I had a friend of mine who liked to customize super-hero figures. And he wasn't even on the Net at the time. And he got seriously freaked out after a while.

He did an action figure of Superboy (he was a Young Justice fan at the time). Right after he made this figure, the company made a Superboy. Then he did Impulse. Right after this, the company made Impulse. He started getting pretty annoyed. So he came up with a character of his own design, sort of a "different Robin" named "Bluebird". He basically took a Robin figure, painted the red portions dark blue, and turned the "R" into a "B". He said, "They can't very well copy THIS!"

Right after that, they came out with a Robin figure in a dark blue tunic. Didn't call it Bluebird, but enough was enough. That was his last custom.

Sorry man I mean no offence but there were people with the idea before you.

Sorry I'm not trying to be a jerk but I have a hard time seeing why you might be so offended.

Seems silly to m.

If I were to base my lifes hobbies and goals around what others are doing, I imagine I wouldn't have gotten very far.

But Zed that's the thing, Joe put out some very basic one-figure displays (with nicely textured bases) as a litmus test. He has bigger better concepts. Other diorama websites have their own more advanced concepts. This AFD has taken the lowest common denominator - Joe's single-shots - and run crazy with it. And I suppose, good for them.

I guess I'm only really pissed off because I didn't pull through for Joe and we should be leaques beyond this already.

We have castles and bunkers in our minds and single-shot dio backdrops on our website. Time to get serious.

Zed speaks the truth young Padawan.

In the words of the wise Grandpa Simpson 'everything is copied from something else. Why, the fax machine is nothing more than a telephone with a waffle iron on top'.

Really, don't let anyone's thoughts or actions have any influence on anything you do, unless its a C&D or the police (or your wife). Do what you want to do, do it to the best of your ability and you'll be fine.

Thats the difference though, CJack.

There are people that TALK and people that DO. The talkers often get mad at those that DO for anger they should have at themselves for not doing what they say they're gonna do. People that aren't going to do something can then blame some one else rather than take blame personally.

Taking the approach now of 'its time to get serious' in my opinion, isnt a good motivation. Now the motivation would be revenge, not passion. How far will that take you? Doing something to out do some one else, rather than doing something that you want to do out of passion and your own interest/faith in the project?

No, nows the time to get serious because Joe invested in the equipment to pursue an idea of mine, one he made possible to produce through his unique knowledge of the printing industry and his discovery of new materials to use, and I have left him hanging and the final products aren't on the market which is a loss of money and investment for him.

I don't give a crap about revenge, I care about the fact that when you release an idea, yes, people are going to copy - so you have to remain inovative and stay ahead of the game, I have totally slacked in that respect and that has given the competition time to catch up and perhaps over take us. You know you use competition as motivation - all business men do.

But enough of this here.

a hundread years ago (while in Middle School) my best bud Mike and spent hours comingup with Transformer designs...we got a lovley form letter saying how, it takes years to design a toy and often severl different people come up with the same idea...two years later a TF came out that looked alot like one of Mike's idea...yeah it sucks, I think I still have the letter at home in scrap book of downers....so hey just do your best and see if its not too late to copywite your idea, I mean I'll jsut say that I have been toying with a dio realted idea for a while, have yet make a decent prototype...all I can say is do your best, and market the hell out of it and good luck

I think what really bugs be about it is that I sent in an email to TNI about the bases and never heard anything. They have a link to submit news articles and I didn't hear anything back. TNI is the ones that put this article up and since I check their page often, I saw it and knew it would be seen by plenty of others. I figure I may as well post about it since others will if they saw it.

Now I don't know if it's a matter of money being paid to be mentioned or what, but like I said, that's the main thing that bothered me about it. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and I'll be putting new ideas out too. I just need to figure a way to get the site and name out there more so that I don't have to worry about another site starting up and pretending to be "innovative" and "first".

It is just business when someone copies you. I mean, as they say "immitation is the sincerest form of flattery". It's to be expected really, but theirs actually costs more and not to pat myself on the back but isn't as good of quality. I hate to really say it like that, but I mean what else can I say?

I hear ya, Joseph.

I'm with you...do the best job you can and let the product speak for itself. Do a good job and let the service you provide speak for yourself. If you need help, ask people you know (hint hint). Network with people you now and get some ideas and actions rolling.

As far as them being on TNI, we really don't know what hoops they leaped thru to get that. If you only sent one email and gave up after that, I think that was a bad move. I would've emailed them repeatedly until I got a response.

Squeeky wheel gets the grease.
