I received this email from Big Bad Toy Store yesterday.



This is the wave with the CG, Viper, Major Bludd, Lady Jaye, Shipwreck, Gung-ho, masked Cobra Commander and black Commando Snake-eyes.

I have to say that if this line is completely cancelled I will be devastated. I just got Wave 2 last week and LOVE the look and feel of these figures. Sure they aren't super-articulated or realistically sculpted but they are damn fun figures to play with.

I'll have to see what I can find out with my "contacts" at the Big H. If this is just a delay like with the Stinger vehicle wave then I'm cool. If these are out-right cancelled... well I just might cry.

I smell trouble in paradise.

Two waves of product cancelled... *lots* of releases in the last few months... lots of cloging on the shelves.

I wanted a Major Bludd, a Hooded Commander, and Shipwreck. And I still want six Stinger Jeeps. This era was so close to perfect, I hope Hasbro didn't choke itself in a cash-in attempt.

I got the same e-mail. Entertainment Earth pulled them from their site as well. This really sucks because I liked these guys and wave 3 was going to be the best one yet.

I'm not sure whether to be concerned or not. I would be if the movie wasn't coming out. This has the feel of when the Transformers movie was coming out and they pretty much stopped making anything that wasn't movie related. I'm hoping that is what we are seeing here. The stuff that has been canceled was set to come out in spring. Right about the time the movie stuff should be hitting the shelves.

Then again, the way the Combat Heroes aren't moving at all they might just be out right canceled.

y'know I've actually warmed up to these little guys, and they make a nice novelty collection on my bookshelf, it's a shame that wave 3 (the best one so far) is cancelled, grrr! Fortunately Canada only now got wave 1, and wave 2 will probably come in the new year - by then wave 3 will be back on track hopefully.

I never got into these and I'm not surprised they're being cancelled.
Star Wars, TF, Super Heroes and Indiana Jones all tried these too. Are they doing well with any other property?

I'm thinking this is all to do with the movie. The stores took a look at what they already had coming between now and summer and passed on this stuff. The Stinger has shown up on eBay (or at least production level stuff on other sites) and I'd wager the molds for these are done. I think (hope) that this is less a cancellation than a hiatus while the movie train rolls through. The time they've put into these and the fact that they've announced and solicited them means these are ready to roll, I don't see Hasbro not getting them out at some point. Look at all the DTC vehicles and figures that had been tooled up for Robot Rebellion that we never saw or heard about until they showed up there. I think this stuff will see the light of day, I just don't know when. In the meantime, I can get caught up on what's actually out there.

I do wonder what this means for the figures that they've announced through the Q and A's that we haven't seen yet if the stuff already up for preorder is getting canned. Which is something I bet most sites will be asking for the next round.

I think star wars ones sell well b/c they're star wars. but GI Joe is different (even though i do actually want the shipwreck from wave 3, reminds me of the mcguffin episode's animation style).

Between this and the Stinger/Arctic HISS situation, I'd be worried if it wasn't for the movie.

Let the movie blow over. Then I believe we'll see at least SOME of this return.

The stores are going to want to emphasize the movie product because they believe it will sell better. And given current economic conditions , they don't want to load the shelves with stuff that's NOT tied into that movie lest it clog the shelves.

Just my theory/speculation on it.

Well I heard something from a freind of mine who also sent me pics of protos for SW two days before they appeared on the net in "reputable" news sources. But also he dispises GI Joe and anything he says towards that end is always going to be fueled by his hatred so this might be hyperbol. But basicly he said that Joe was going to take a break until the movie, Big H would consintrate more on Marvel and SW until then with the resolute and movie being the focus (around may). I thought this was kind of dumb not to keep a retail presence with the movie around the corner. However right after that (And to his prediction) the glut of waves started one after the other (his claim was that hasbro was trying to squeeze out as much product as they had tooled up before the "break" to gain as much as possible before return on them).

One thing he pointed out is how little info about next waves is coming while SW and Marvel info is flowing.

I hesitate to say anything since A. This is a person who hates GI Joe and B. I definatly don't want to sound like an "insider" cause really I have found that most people who claim to be are really speculating anyway. But still he got the waves coming out so fast right and he has said watch for cancelations.

I don't know I take it with a grain of salt guys, but do with the info what you will.

I wonder where this puts the Dr. Mindbender wave of figures that was supposed to come out before the movie? They reported it in a Q&A but there are still no pre-orders up for that wave and no pictures.

Since Hasbro can be pretty cool some times with their statements it would be cool if they could issue some statement before the next round of Q&A. If it's just they decided they wanted to hold all this stuff until after the movie that's okay because heck my wallet could use a bit of a break and it would give me a better chance to catch up as things were almost coming out too fast. I could also see how retailers would like some time to clear off inventory at the regular price instead of having to clearance to make room for the movie stuff.

Perhaps I've just been in the GI Joe thing for too long so I've developed that paranoid feeling of hey I'm liking the stuff we are getting so it must be doomed to be canceled any day now.

No Shipwreck? Say it ain't so. He's the ONLY one of these I want.
