I wish I had that sort of time...and space...and money... lol
The whole setup couldn't have cost $500. You can often get the coolers for $2.99 at the end of the summer, and a full sheet of the Styrofoam costs you about $20. The cutter can be had for about $50.
The time and space though...
But more importantly the skill. Getting all those cut angles right, and getting everything to fit to scale, gluing it all together seamlessly that is amazing work. How do you even begin to think about doing something like this?
I can't even think on this kind of scale.
To put it in perspective, you could have parked stuntmatty's battleship in the space in the terrordrome. It would have stuck out, but you could have put about half of it in there. That's the kind of scale that we're talking about here. It's the largest scale project I've seen so far.

I agree the size/scale is hard to fathom. And in terms of getting the angles right, I have a hard time getting the angles right installing a single piece of floorboard in my house, so yeah I get it.

The money comment for me was less about the structure, and more about the population of the base. It would cost me more than another $500 on top of it all to put all the vehicles and other set pieces in there. But I agree one of the best parts about these are the low cost of the underlying parts for the structure, even if that also ties in to one of the worst parts of it, i.e. durability.
