Hasbro has a tendency to not quite realize that seasonally themed vehicles or figures should be released around the time frame of the actual season.

Look at the Tiger Cat. Though the only time it was used was in the Special Missions comic but it was driving on NY Streets that had no snow. I could always use my imagination and pretend there was snow though if I decided I wanted to play with the snow vehicles though so I see no reason why there has to be actual snow on the ground to have to play with them.

Think carefully about this one again. Who buys winter toys in july? Only collectors. No one was buying the arctic assault set when it came out in the summer time. And in winter when the desert theme came out? ... by the way, i'm thinking of the TRU sets from earlier this decade. same goes for when the VsV snow themed vehicle came out.

edit: what the heck...summer was when dusty's crap vehicle came out in JvsC, forgot that one from recent years. the VvsV desert scorpion guy came out around spring/summer, so that one was close.

I actually prefer not to. ;-)

Frostbite's filecard made it pretty clear that the Tiger Cat wasn't even intended to be a "snow" vehicle, though.

There is no doubt that a kid can "pretend" that grass is snow, or whatever. But when there is REAL snow on the ground, aren't kids even more likely to want actual snow themed vehicles to play with outside?

I used boats in the snow as a kid because they slid down the snow banks better than the snow vehicles. Then again it was usually so cold during the winter I did a lot more playing inside with my figures so as to not lose any of my fingers.

While I think that the "release snow-themed toys in winter" argument makes sense, the Big Ben/Whiteout two-pack seriously disproves it. But, since that figure pack appeared in stores at the very end of December, maybe the theory needs to be changed to "release snow-themed toys in the Christmas shopping season."

Well I know my credit card has been over used thanks to too much stuff all at once. Seriously if it wasn't for credit cards I wouldn't have been able to keep up, and I'll have to pay extra (interest) for the stuff I bought. I'd like to see a slow down myself, but not them cancel products we've seen and liked. I got the cancel email from BBTS too. Maybe it's just that case assortment that's being canceled. It could be having all 4 vehicles we want in the same box was too much to ask for so now they'll repack them so we get the winter HISS and Moccasin with the previous AWE Striker and FANG. The other 2 will get packed with something else.

I don't wanna sound like a big H basher, but that would make sense, maybe its an anti peg warming move.

The desert awe striker certainly stinks like battle face cobra commander.

Ok, seriously, if the tank is now adapted to "dune crashing" why didn't they alert the driver?

Also, it cracks me up, he pulverized a batallion by firing the main gun into the center of their line.

Wow, give the man a medal, he fired his gun at the enemy, woot!

Personally, I don't care about the Arctic HISS at all.

The Stinger is what I wanted!!

Yeah, but then again, around here at least, that turd stuck around on the shelves long enough to prove that it couldn't sell well, no matter what season it was. :-D

I just thought, Outback has to be the curse of GI Joe, everytime he is remaid something bad happens, 1994 line cancelled, DTC Line cancelled, now, not cancelled but the product he was in is.

He is a bad omen I tell you a bad omen.

Oh Crap, Brawler is based on him, and we all know where that went, Head for the hills.

Well, I got my MasterCollector G.I.Joe Collectors' Club Newsletter in the mail today. So now I have seen pictures of the Arctic HISS and the Cobra Stinger.

Now I'm really depressed... :-( :-/

That red CLAW is pretty cool, too.

Trek, you didn't see the numerous picks of them posted here on Joecustoms?

Did the collectors club newsletter have any info on them getting pulled?

Me have slow computer. Me still on dial-up. Take forever to load pics. Me no call up links like that too often. :-D

And no, the Club Newsletter, I suspect, was printed decidedly before the cancellation announcement. They're probably as peeved as the rest of us.

There are countless possibilities here, considering the spring release schedule and the impending movie stuff. We know they've done the tooling, we've seen pictures on the Club site, so obviously they've already invested significant funds into this.

There is still a ton of product hanging on store shelves, so I could see that impacting some retailer outlook during the holidays. Heck, maybe things are actually pushed back a bit. But with tooling already done, I would expect to see these released, it just may not be when we think (or hope) it is...

From where I work now, I may actually *gasp* have insight to this. Back in the summer, oil was $140/barrel, and all derivatives of oil, including the plastic for our Joes, were priced based on $140/barrel oil. Now, with the economy the way it is, folks have less spending cash (or, no credit to buy), current product isn't moving, and oil's between $45 and $50/barrel (at least as of yesterday).

Anyhow, in late October, I heard in the lunch room that over half of the Chinese toy factories have shut down completely. Everybody is overstocked with product -- product whose costs were based on that $140/barrel oil. Last week, the feeling that the market research folk at the company have is, that no matter the industry, the first thing that they have to do is sell off all that high-cost product. Then and ONLY then will they make more, based on the current cost of production.

By the time we get that turnaround, (now we come to my pure speculation), Hasbro may well package these up in movie format as a way to scream "new and different" to the general public.
