I finally got around to checking out this article. I have to say I disagree with a lot of the vehicles too. He made most of choices based on the box art. There is nothing wrong with the Moray, but yeah, apparently Torch has something against water.

But yeah, Ive been noticing the missile exhaust issue for years. But I love how you can put 12 guys on the sides on a havoc.

You may have had a point if any of those guys was standing on literally NOTHING like Wetsuit in that Devilfish illustration. And remember, Joe vehicles were designed with foot-pegs, so they STOOD on top of moving vehicles (look at the STUN and tell me anyone could use those back foot pegs without flying off the second it moved), they didn't sit like in that picture. So forget balance and "not falling on your ass off the side of a moving tank" issues, they'd also be pretty grand targets.

Joe vehicles are great, but they have some pretty ridiculous features. And not just the spring-loaded ones.

Due to proportion issues joe vehicles cannot be normal size. Look at the BBI stuff for the reason why. So they cannot really create seats where seats don't exist or will look even worse.
Now the above is an example of a small vehicle that you could only practically utilize without sitting by standing on the sides.
Many of the smaller vehicles from older eras could only be used like this.

It is not ridiculous given the standards, and issues with joe vehicles. Not always at least. Sometimes but not always.

The people hanging off the sides thing never bothered me. Soldiers have to walk a lot. The only time they aren't walking is when they're running or marching. So whenever there's a chance to toss your gear or jump up on something with wheels to save the walk, they'll take it - though they generally un-ass before the fighting starts.

The Canadian army was having problems with the strikers because they kept tipping over when you loaded 12 guys and all their gear on top of them.

Sure. Nobody ever said that hanging off the side of a vehicle will protect you when the bullets start flying. It does save the walk though so it is a practical thing. It was a decent feature for joe vehicles given the way they had to make them proportionally.
It added to the play features on some if not all of them.

I love that people will find infinite ways to try to justify the most ridiculous features on a vehicle/figure if it's one of their favorites. What's wrong with saying, "Yeah, it's ridiculous, but I still like it" ?
