I remember reading sometime ago there was an idea floating around of China's own joe team. I remember one of the names floated around was Jade Dragons or something. I figure China would want its own answer to Cobra as well. A more modern Oktober Guard.

I'm doing some customs currently of this unit and I'm looking for names and ideas. I'm thinking I'll do 5 or 6 characters (one female of course). I know this thread was done before and I can't find it.

Also I like my groups to have their own vehicles and was wondering if anyone ever picked this jeep up from this Power Team set:

Which jeep? The one on the left or the one on the right? I have the one on the left and it rocks. I've never seen the one on the right, but it looks like a crossbreed of a VAMP and a Hummer.

There was a thread over on the GPXD website that discussed that one on the right. It is a Chinese army jeep - I forget the designation for it. I keep looking at this set, but don't want to pay for all that just to get the jeep.

Another idea for a Chinese unit would be to use the PTE or IJ horse for mounted calvary. There was a pic out around the time they were preparing for the Olympics of Chinese troops on horseback training. Looked pretty cool.

well,.. Im sure you already covered these Ideas:

6 man group

1) Demolitions/ explosives expert (armed with bazooka and/ or Marauder grenade launcher, with AK-74)

2) martial arts expert (yeah, I know, kinda cliche for a chinese team. But it would be even cooler if it looked like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, or Samo Hung)

3) Covert Operations: The CHinese version of Chuckles (even cooler if it looked like CHow Yun Fat, if he does, he HAS to be armed with two Glocks or .45's!)

4) Heavy machine gunner (heavy weapon of your choice, as long as its from a communist country)

5) Special Ops (can be armed with a Dragonev (sp) Sniper rifle)

6) "COmmander"

and Idea for names,.. i usually type in "CHinese names" into google, and go from there. not only will it give you real chinese names, but also their meaning, where you can derive their code names from.

or you can always get names from TV, like "Dragon of the West" (from Avatar, great name for a flamethrower)

I'm looking more for names to call the unit itself. I think Jade Dragons is a little to cheesy. Thanks for the suggestions so far. Its along the same lines as what I was thinking. If anyone has played mercenaries 2 - their camo is the color scheme I am thinking for the unit.

Matthew - yeah I meant the jeep on the right. Just wanted to see if anyone else has seen it elsewhere or posted pictures.

I have never seen that jeep on the right, i would like some of them to.

As for the Chinese version of GI Joe, that's a tough one, but maybe Jinx, Budo, Quick Kick, that's all i can think of for now, you're probably gonna have to create some of the higher ranking commanders for their team.

I made a gang of Chinese troops using PTE figures. (based on the gray and white camo from the Mercenaries game). Chap Mei had a cool looking jeep that matched the one from the game but I never got around to customizing it.

PS never liked the Jade Dragons name since it was too stereotypical and not something I can see the Chinese government even coloquially referring to a team as.

yeah, the name would probably be something simple,.. like the People's Army Special Forces, or Secret Police..

I'd go with the name August Ones which is a reference to Chinese mythology about the Three August Ones and the Five Emperors and also seems a slight nod to the October Guard.

My second choice would be to go with Xian Guan Yu. Xian meaning Immortal and Guan Yu being the God of Brotherhoods, War, and martial power.

I thinking of naming each member off of an animal off the chinese zodiac ex. (dragon, ox, ram, rabbit, tiger, rat, dog, etc) and then put some type of adjective in front. Each animal would represent the soldiers specality. Or maybe not. Just throwning out my initial ideas.

I suppose if you wanted to keep your team limited to about 12 people, that works.

Jade Dragons was an idea Zedhatch had a while back; the moment I heard it, I remembered. He did several figures for the team, all of which you can find here:

Now that the Oktober Guard is at least cordial with the Joe team they need a new hard team up. I also postulated the use of teh Name Jade Dragons and have a team of 12 prospective characters I just need to do some research to flesh them out.

Leader (die hard communist) "Chairman" - Veteran of many conflicts
Covert Operative (Undercover) "Weasel"
Communications "Mandarin"
Intelligence "Confucius "
Naval Commando "Tsunami"
Combat Engineer "Great Wall"
Weapons Technician (Development) "Dragon's Breath"
Helicopter pilot (From Tibet) "Great Wind" Secondary Specialty of Archery
Vehicle specialist (Woman) "Gobi" - Dry sense of humor
Martial Artist (Dragon Han!) "Han" - Second in command
Ranger - Stereotypical Soldier/EOD "Tiger"
Party Agitator (the plant, party spy) "Sickle" - Snake Eyes type (eventually will be kicked off team because he tried to kill a teammate

I would love to see a new uneasy alliance team. North Korea would also seem like a tough aliance.
I hate the name Jade Dragons, as it sounds too stereotyped.
I love the idea of a big guy named Great Wall, as it also ties in with Roadblock.

This was a topic I started a long time ago.
I remember there were 4 names being polled including Jade Dragons, something Tigers, People's Anti-Terrorist Force something like that? I don't remember which name won the poll though.
Zed ran with his name Jade Dragons and made a few customs.

It was a fun topic and I'm glad it's got legs to be revived.
For China to have a GI Joe equivalent makes a lot of sense along with the Oktober Guard. :-D
