Some of you may remember I started to mold and cast some jet pack flames for use with the Cobra Air Trooper. That didn't happen as I had initially planned BUT I'm now in a position to do so and will be moving forward with this design. What prompted this newly restored interest in jet pack flames? Starduster. Plain and simple. So here he is with the version 2 model of my jet pack flames.

I don't have a cost on these yet as I have to price out materials and such. But I should be able to turn these around fairly inexpensively once I'm up and running.

My question to you all is this - would you prefer these in the cast color shown here or in clear plastic? Pros and cons of each...

Cast beige color:
Pros - cheaper material, no visible air bubbles
Cons - not quite so dramatic looking when painted, looks like plastic

Clear:
Pros - can be dyed with an orange or yellow dye or painted with glass paints to look like flames
Cons - more expensive material, more visible air bubbles (I don't have a pressure pot)

Personally, I'm making some in clear for myself. I'm not sure how they'll turn out but that's my goal for myself. I'd prefer to stick with one type of resin and even though its a bit more expensive I think the clear will look better in the long run.

So what say you?

I say beige as well. A decent paint job can still make them look almost as good as glass paint on the clear.

I say beige. For variety, you can paint only the area just below the jetpack like flames, and the bottom can stay beige and look like exhaust.

Without the picture, I would have voted clear. Seeing the beige in action, it looks enough like exhaust to be fine on its own. If you had a clear one to display against the beige one, maybe I'd have a harder decision to make.

Can we get an idea of how much more expensive the clear material is? 10% more expensive? 150% more expensive? That matters too.

Beige makes more in-continuity sense as actual flames streaming down one's backside 300 feet in the air is just stupid. But a pressurized jet of non-flammable gas is another matter. Hell, you could prolly get away with saying they're filled with very high pressure water for the fuel, really.

I'd say beige and then do a special edition later with clear. I'll probably get one of these from you. I've been meaning to make one myself but I doubt I'll ever get around to it.

Beige does look look like butterscotch soft-serve icecream... but still preferable to clear.

I can't keep fooling myself that I'm a customizer, if I could get these things in clear (or red/orange/yellow-whatever) it would be a world of difference. But it looks like everyone wants beige.

Just dont forget there may be a market for clear flames for those with less inclined-painting skills. Plus I find the clear plastic to add a nice vibrant punch to a displayed figure, I mean I like things realistic as the next guy, but it should be fun too.

I'm not a customizer either and if I could get them in biege, I would be happy. I like the exhaust look better.

I voted beige. I would prefer to paint them rather then have clear ones. Here is a thought, why don't you offer them in both colors?
