Simple questions.

Through various approved sources, (the toys, the cartoons, the comics) we've seen aliens, ghosts, alternate dimensions, genetic mutation, cyborgs, see-through ninjas, people coming back from the dead, mind control devises, and clones, and all sorts of wacky sci-fi stuff, and on the other hand, I've seen people comment that they don't even like having laser weapons and robots running around.

So, how far do you prefer to take things?

I have funding formulas, and oversite committees.

I can tell you which real government legislation enabled the team to be created. I know who in the real chain of command they report to.

My Joes have to file paperwork in order to get issued guns and ammo. I have filing cabinets in my joe bases.

No, I'm not kidding. :-/

Wow.... just wow. I think you may want to look for a new job or something because all that government work is *really* messing you up, dude.

You certainly take all the fun out of being in an elite commando unit.

Mine is not entierly realistic, but I do through out anything that happened in the Cartoon. No alternate deminsions (at least not crossing over), no robotic sea serpents, no weather dominators.

Very unrealistic. Events happen, people die, and then it all starts over again. Jet packs for everyone. GI Joe has fought alongside the Star Wars Rebellion. Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine, Optimus Prime, and Snake Eyes have battled the dreaded Carebare...and lost. I play out whatever fantasy is fun and entertaining to me. Most times it follows what ever has my interests at the moment or some super huge story that is only playing out in my head.

Right now my End of Days verse features zombies and other creatures. Though I try and approach it from a realistic stand point. There aren't any super ninjas, and heroes do die.
But that's just one of many verses.

Mine too, although Gung Ho kicked Grumpy Bears butt.
My verse is Star Wars based. All super powered humans and aliens ( earth based) owe their powers to the midi clorine aka Meta gene, X gene etc.. Gi Joe is a division of Shield.

No aliens, no ghosts.

It is meant to mirror our current world as much as possible.

Considering technology exists similar to Dr. Venom's Brainwave Scanner, and not to mention the guy who flew across the English Channel in a rocket pack, my Joeverse is mostly realistic.

Mostly realistic, but there are a couple of groups of dimension hopping monster hunters. One guy has a plasma sword, but there are no laser rifles.

Mine presents a dichotomy. On the one hand, I involved everything from Jason Bourne conspiracies to Resident Evil mutagenic abberations. On the other hand, in my Joeverse, relationships can be started and ended, and mean something. Friends of length, have histories. Adversaries, have understandable and tangible reasons to hate each other(Spirit/Storm Shadow). Also, as evidenced by the RE: Maelstrom teaser, they will indeed yell, laugh, curse, cry, kiss, fight, and get lucky. If someone gets injured, it will take time to heal, as this isn't a video game and there are no fix-it health potions.

If I have an alien in it, it won't be E.T., but either a help or a hindrance.

I leave cute for those who are best at conveying it.

My verse used to be realistic, but with more and more properties, coming into the 1/18 scale, I can't help but mix things up(Hellboy, Indians Jones, Marvel, Star Wars...) and plus for the other properties that don't have 1/18 scale items out yet, that's when I substitute my Joe's for what's missing(Joe's entering Resident Evil or Star Gate relms).

I started out being extremely realisitic, only using real world weapons, only getting the vehicles that were the closest to real world equivalents, but I've been mellowing out as time has gone by. I still try to keep pretty close to what's going on right now, or the obvious next step tech, but I've been integrating some Star Wars stuff as well.

I have gotten so unrealistic that I have quit trying to say these guys are not toys anymore LOL.

Really I used to be in this uber semi-realism mode about joes (Like serpantor was possible as a super-soldier program, but only one was made). but after a few years in exile I desided that figures became less and less fun because of that.

What I wanted was for it to fun again so I went in the complete other direction and I have to say this has been much more rewarding to do so. WHile I am not 100% funny all the time I do tend to drop some major degrees of goofyness in there to balance it all out. The serious moments are there, but less and less (which is the flip-side of how I used to do things).

Plus it allows to more easily incorperate many more and different items like wrestling, comic characters, Star Wars, ect. without worring too much about how to do it. They are toys who live in a toy town and cross paths quite often.
