This sounds cool. But remember the OTHER line that came out and everyone was so hyped that it was 1/18 as well. *cough* Speed Racer *cough* I'm with the wait and see crowd myself.

I would say "that was Mattel", but Playmates has been hit or miss too these days. Not that Mattel has even had a "hit" actually that stuck. Heck the hits they had they crapped all over it to mess it up. But with Playmates mini-turtle line, we might end up seeing something more in scale to that. I hope not and it is possible Playmates might do a great job, but we'll see.

There were some exoskeletons made by someone long ago, I remember getting three of them for $1 each at KayBee. Not the greatest, but workable. If another line is coming out (other than the Japanese gashapon that came out a year or so ago), this is awesome news.

A Skynet playset??? The mind boggles!

Pity none of the figures are likely to look like Ahnold. Unless the Salvation license covers the previous films too, but even then I think Schwarzenegger has separate likeness rights (which is why the Mc Farlane Movie Maniacs T-800 had a battle damaged face, though they did make T3 T-800s with Arnold's likeness). Anyway, it'd be great to get a 3 3/4th Schwarzenegger, hell, a decent 6in one (that isn't a brick) is cool too. Dunno if we'll get it though. This does mean we have a shot at a decent 3 3/4th Christian Bale though, depending on what route Playmates decides to go with the sculpt anyway. Looking forward to seeing what they have come Toy Fair.

when is toy fair?

Toy Fair is February, every year. The weekend can change around a bit, but I think it's usually the second weekend of the month.

And I don't think Mattel ever advertised the Speed Racer line as being 18th scale. I think they were honest by calling them 3" figs.

No the Speed Racer being 3 3/4" started with a listing in Diamond's Preview. It was listed in there. From those listings the various news sites scanned the ad. I think Entertainment Earth was about the only one that from the start had listed it as 3 1/2" or whatever. But yeah it started with a mistype of an ad and snowballed from there.

Wonder if they're planning any 3 3/4th figures for the new Star Trek line they're doing? Those could be cool if done well too, but to be honest I'm just interested in a 3 3/4th size Simon Pegg.

yeah, I was thinking if they go for star trek figs as well.

wow, we could see toy budgets escalate from hundreds a year to thousands, :(

At that point, I'd have to stay home, never go anywhere because I'd be broke.

but surrounded by toys. . . hmmm, acceptable.

Cool news, but the fact that Playmates is making them puts my excitement on hold. "masters of limited articulation" is the understatement of the year.

If the movie's coming in May, why is this line slated for the Fall? :shifty:
