Mean Dog,... what do you think?

It was one of the few late model vehicles to see comic book time, and had one of the funniest driver characters in Joe history, Wild Card. Not to mention the modular construction

But its also one of the most Non Military looking vehicles in the Joe army, looking like a reject from Megaforce.

so....your thoughts?

The Mean Dog was a pretty good vehicle.

Some of the design elements, most notably the "bladed" front portions, are realistic to some degree. Some ground based launch vehicles have windshield with blast shields that blade in the same manner.

The stand-up removable gun turret was a little odd, but as a whole I liked the vehicle quite a bit.

It also was one of the last vehicles to have a believable color scheme, too.

When using the removable gun turret, it's best left on the vehicle. I cannot imagine the thing would still stand up after a couple of (hundred) rounds. On the vehicle, it works for me.
I like the way you can split the Mean Dog in two vehicles and I thinks especially the back part has some great oppurtunities for customizing. And the rocketlaunchers are just awesome!
Wild Card has a pretty wild helmet. One like Hawk v2, Footloose or Crankcase would've been better. His torso has a tough look and can be used for that kind of customs or Dreadnoks. Too bad his pants are red. The best thing about him is the machete that fits into his holder as a backpack. Also great usage for any custom jungle figure.
So, for me the Mean Dog is OK.

Ug. I think the large machine gun is overkill. The vehicle itself looks pretty good, but I could never use it due to that damn gun. I actually like it better withou the gun and the empty spot used for storage.

3/10

I wanted to love this one, I really did. The huge chaingun was sweet to look at (and brought a lot of imagined destruction), and the modular construction was very cool but...when you took it all apart, that's when my love faded for three reasons:

1. I never could get the gun to stand on it's own. The "foot ring" always failed to lock into place, or the gun barrel would overbalance it and it would tip, especially on carpet.

2. Trying to imagine one guy unloading that massive gun from the vehicle was a stretch even for my vivid imagination.

3. Getting the two sections back together tend to involve a bit of twisting--I would have loved a slide-and-lock feature that was smoother, but the rear wheels were just a hair too wide to make that easy.

After playing with it maybe 2-3 times I began leaving this one on the shelf; I started favoring the Thunderclap over it as my favorite "modular" vehicle.

I like it. It's over the top, yet believeable in the Joe-verse.

The beauty of the Mean Dog is that it can be used for anti aircraft or anti personnel. The modular aspect of the MD is hokey, but then again, I never liked the modular concept for any vehicle. Smaller vehicles stored on one big vehicle I can accept (like the jet skis and pod on the Cobra BUGG), but the modular concept behind the Mean Dog just seems redundant.

After all, it would take a cargo heli to seperate the cannon from the Mean Dog, and if you have a heli on hand, why not just airlift a Flak to the battlefield? Or better yet, tow a Whirlwind or HAL. All they require is a hitch.

I wouldn't argue that the Mean Dog is the best vehicle the RAH line had to offer, maybe not even in my top twenty, but it's definitely worth owning.

Back in the early 90s (when I thought I was the lone customizer out there!), I had painted one grey with black trim, and removed the large gun. I don't remember what line the gun came with that I replaced it with, but it made a very cool Oktober Guard vehicle.

The Mean Dog is totally cool, King! :-D How can you not love anything that ugly? It';s like a bulldog puppy with rockets and a bigass gun! I wish I had one.

I always looked at it like the Joe version of the MAGGOT. 3 piece vehicle, stationary gun platform, scout vehicle.
No comm center but an antiaircraft truck instead.

Pretty much my fave Joe vehicle of all, along with the MAGGOT being my fave COBRA vehicle of all. I've got one complete 'Dog that I put some paint details to, and a second that's only missing a few missiles, plus parts to about 3 or 4 more 'Dogs for customizing, like I did for my Bat-Crasher.

I guess I'm just a sucker for the weird-ass modular vehicles overall, as the BF2K vehicles, the BUGG, and the Hammerhead all rank pretty high with me.

/Still haven't ever found a Wild Card fig to have, tho.

I've made a few LBCs using the Wild Card torso and have about 6 more cast ones I hope to make into even more Dreadnoks.

narceron isn't lying when he mentions my 'Nok Army...

...although my Oktober Guard team seems to be up to around 60+ (only about 20 or so are named/bio'ed).

I like the Mean Dog.

1) It looks like it could very easily be modded into either a Thunder Machine-esque Dreadnok vehicle or even a Oktober Guard vehicle.

2) The thing looks like it has got some armor weight to it, unlike some of the other vehicles released around the same time.

3) It just looks awesome in a motor pool environment.

I like this vehicle a lot, and even though I don't usually remove it, the big chain gun is a lot of the reason for why i like it.

Oh, and wild card is a pretty cool figure, esp. for having a machete of all accessories for his weapon.

Well, hell, if we're showing off pics; here's the one I detailed up a bit like 10 years ago (at least).

That really is a great looking vehicle. I'd say it's more than just OK.
