Better late than never, right?

Got my new camera in the mail and broke it in by finally getting some reviews up for the latest wave of Comic Packs.

Check it out!

You know why you rock?

This picture made me LOL so hard. Look at poor little ARAH Nemesis Enforcer. It looks like the 25th figures grandpappy.

Great reviews and I'm glad the new camera is working out. :-)

Hehe, that side by side makes the old one look like he's saying "I'm Nemesis En.... oh forget it!" The new update blows the old one away.

Very good reviews, touching on most of the points I would have wanted covered, and, as always, really showing what the figures strengths and weaknesses would be from more than just your own point of view.

Conspicuous by its absence, no mention of Onyx Destro. I can understand if you weren't able to find one to review, but not even mentioning it?

When the first saw pics of Onyx Destro, I did not know he was a variant. I thought that was the Destro we were getting in this comic pack. It seemed really strange, not a look I cared for. Now that the gold headed version is out, you said something in your review that made me appreciate the Onyx version:

Not much else really to talk about with Destro. He's got the same parts, the same accessories, pretty much the same everything. Not much to get excited about.

So although the Onyx version was strange, at least it was new, something the gold headed comic pack Destro is not.

I don't think people are strictly complaining that we're getting so many Cobra Commanders. It's that so many of the versions are so similar and yet unavoidable. If you want a complete MASS Device, you need to get the single pack Cobra Commander who is almost identical to all the majority of other Cobra Commanders except for his accessories. You also need to get the fifth DVD set, which features another, superior Cobra Commander. So right there, assuming you did not get the original Cobra five pack, the Cobra army builder five pack, the blue Cobra evolution pack, and have no plans to get the upcoming battle pack, you still have two pretty identical versions of Cobra Commander. What this comic pack does is give us another of Cobra Commander's iconic looks, so there is purpose to this new version and all it took was new accessories.

Sadly, I'm routing for this version of Cobra Commander to get rereleased, either identically or in black like the Battle Corps version. Why? Because I want to complete my MASS Device without getting two Tripwires.

Those are some fair points, Ryan. Thinking back, I was pretty luke warm on the Destro so I didn't even explore the Onyx-headed version, which is something I should have discussed (even though I don't yet own one). You're right, that is a somewhat different "look" for Destro that deserved at least some conversation.

You actually pinned down my COBRA Commander thoughts as well, even if I didn't express them clearly enough. My whole point was that yes, it's that particular version of the figure that's getting tired because we're getting so inundated with it. That was kind of my point about why I was so excited about this version of COBRA Commander, because it's actually something different (and fairly well-executed at that).

Thanks for the comments!

Justin

Hi, I'm Raptor and I am strictly complaining that we're getting so many Cobra Commanders.

Great review as always, Justin! Here's my $.02 ($.03 Canadian...)

I found these at Target back in July when they first came out and they're hit and miss.

This CC is my new default CC. The webgear is a little too plastic-looking, and the scabbard and holster suck, but those were easily fixed. As for the ton of previous CC versions, I pretty much just use them for custom fodder anyway (since the lower legs can be made it to regular pants pretty easily.)

Tripwire is an excellent update to the original. I just wish they'd given him a removable helmet.

Falcon as a figure is 100% crap. His accessories are nice enough - and they're new, which is something. But I prefer my custom Falcon (made completely from a TF Flint) much better. At least I can use factory Falcon's bandana. Non-removable webgear sucks.

NE is good for what he is -- I don't give a rip about the character, but the figure's pretty sweet (except the colors - those are getting changed soon.)

The IGs are great - and I've gotten three CPs so far to start my little IG Squad. I actually found the onyx Destro on day 1 along with the rest of the comic packs - had I known they were going to be hard to find I would have Ebay'd the [LASER BLAST] ;-)

the webgear is removable. you have to remove all gear, head and a leg than the gear slides off just like Lady Jay or Buzzer

which is why it doesn't qualify as actually "removable"...

Well I guess Joe and Cobra minds must think alike because I share some of the same feelings as the rest of you guys.

I'm not tired of Cobra Commander or Destro, I'm just tired of the same figure with only some little color changes. So the new comic pack Cobra Commander looks really nice next to my other 25th Cobra Commander figures for being different. Poor Destro though just no reason to get excited there at all.

Really too bad Tripwire can't take his helment off because everything else is great.

Poor, poor, poor, Falcon though. I just couldn't take those horrible Duke arms so I swapped out all his gear and his head on a spare Stalker figure I had and he looks much better. Yea it's not the exactly same look as the orginal, but hey it's the 25th line so I figure I could fudge a bit.

Nice to see the new camera is working out.

I bought the comics (separately from the toys). They're not as good as I would hope.

-Not one of them even has a little caption that says "end" in the last panel.
-They're advertising for a Joe Con that has already passed by.
-Mainframe was referred to as "Mainframe" not "Dataframe." Such inconsistency may confuse the kiddies.
-The Destro comic didn't make much sense to me (is it to be continued or something?).

As for the toys, I can't comment.

Late?

No.

You're still early as far as retail stores in my area are concerned.

These haven't shown up yet.

Update: Today I finally found the Tripwire and Iron Grenadier packs. The Nemesis Immortal ones were picked clean from both places I found them at.

Very nice ad for the GI Joe Convention on the back cover of the comics.

Too bad it's for an event that was THREE MONTHS AGO...
