do you ever stop to think about how big your collection is gonna get? I mean, when you have bought that 100th B.A.T. for your collection, do you wonder: "where is all of this gonna go?" or "why am I doing this?"

Yup! I think that's something everyone goes thru at one time or another, based on $, time, space and the wife.

Plus, everyone is different with thier "needs". Some shoot dio stories, some display everything, some pack them in boxes, and others play with them.

So, I think thats a common question that everyone had to deal with at one point or another.

Oh, all the time I ask myself why I collect so much. I've literally got thousands of figures now.
. . .But then I just go and buy another figure. :-D

The question actually went more like this:

"where am I gonna find a bigger place to live?"

Seriously

I'm with Dream on that...

I suppose when I start to worry that the number of action figures and the amount of physical space they occupy in my home may be resulting in an insufficient supply of oxygen to sustain my life, then I'll figure I might have a few too many figures.

I've gone beyond too much and need to get rid of a lot of it. I gotta do something more to promote my webpage and list a whole lot more. I'll be dropping a list in the market place soon with items I think people might be interested in. I'm going to list it at a JoeCustoms dicount too.

But yeah I have enough stuff that is taking up a whole house next to me. Seriously. That's not including what I have in the house I live in.

Reminds me of a bit that Carlin did about having too much stuff and then getting a bigger house then getting more stuff to fill the bigger house then having to get a bigger house!

That's what happened to me and that's why i am selling off my collection, i had waaaaay to much, now that i'm selling it, it doesn't bother me as much as i thought it would, it also helps others fill in the gaps with their collection and helps me raise money for what i really want and to pay some bills. :-P

Its cool to hear others struggling with the same things that I am. We (me, wife, and child) had an apartment with a good size basement. My wife hates the basement so it was all mine. And I packed it full of joes. By the time we moved you could barely navigate around to look at everything crammed in there.
So, yay, we finally buy a house. Much bigger than the apartment. But no real basement. What was I thinking. Now there is no where to display the Joes. For three years now the bulk of my collection is sitting in the crawl space.
I continually think about selling large sections of it. Even just selling the army builders and duplicates would be a huge space saver. But I just can't bring myself to do it.
The problem is now I get no enjoyment from my collection. Just the frustration of knowing it is there, but never doing anything with it. I haven't even gotten back into much customizing. All my pieces parts are buried in the tubs with the rest of the collection.
So I continue to debate - start selling some of it. Or hope for a day we buy a new house.
At one point I almost sold everything just to end the agony.

I discovered I had too much, even though my collection is modest by most standards. My cutting down was actually inspired by GITrekker – in an article he wrote about 1982 Joes in Collectible Toys and Values, he wrote "I remember a time when the whole line would fit into a shoebox, with room for them to play volleyball to spare".

I decided then, my Joes should fit in a shoebox. Thus far, my ARAH Joes fit in a shoebox, and my 25th guys BARELY fit in a largish golf shoe box. Then, my entire memorabilia fits into a footlocker trunk. Besides this, I have a small box that holds all of my vehicles (25th only, whatever has been produced minus Target exclusives).

EVERYTHING fits in the trunk. Games, comics, accessories, figures, filecards. Period.

I'm much, much happier with my Joe collection now.

That's why i decided to sell, no room to display and running out of room to store them, something had to be done, if you sit down and think about it, you'll find an answer.
