Apparently showing off your joe collection at work is considered inappropriate.

I'm just surprised that none of those just disappeared..

His co-workers are obviously the type that complain for the sake of complaining. They lead miserable lives and like nothing more to have others share in misery. They should all choke and die. I really shouldn't sugar coat these things. :)

A long time ago I had a single loose Joe and a R2D2 on my desk. It wasn't long until Joe and R2 were having inter-office relationships every morning when I got to work. I really didn't think you could put R2 in such positions but apparently you can't underestmate the imagination of certain people. That alone was reason for me to never bring anymore stuff to work. That guy was brave for having that much stuff because you know someone would screw with it or just steal it. People suck.

I'm going to be a bad guy here and say that while cool, that's a little extreme. A few figures would be more than enough without being so distracting. Were I his boss I'd have told him to tone it down a little too.

That said: The person who reported him is a douchebag of the first order. I hope he got reported for his non-standard stapler or whatever personalization he's done to his own office.

Or just egg his office. Whatever.

Must work with a bunch of openers.

That was a MOC dig in case you didn't get it.

Personally I don't have any personal effects at my desk. I'm a "keep work and personal life seperate" kinda guy but that's just me. I do say this guy was a bit excessive but if you can't see it unless you step inside his office then I don't see what the big deal is.

Late 90's I did janitorial work at one of the local Air Force Base's here in Colorado and where the civilians had cubicles and offices, I saw at least 10 offices/cubicles, with action figures displayed. I mean from Star Wars to superheroes. And I don't mean a few fig's, I mean as many if not more, than what's in the posted link. And nobody complained, it was kinda cool, chatting with them about what figure lines we collected.

Yeah, that is a bit excessive. If I was brave enough to have Joes at work. I would prolly have 4 or 5 tops loose posed on my back windowsill. What this guy has is a bit much.

My brother collected any twelve inch action figures that were fire or EMS related. Whether Hasbro or another line, if it had any type of turnout gear we got it for him.

In the process of taking parts from one to outfit others fully, he ended up with a nude male and female on his desk.

I went into his room to drop of the laundry and saw the two figures on the desk. I quickly rearranged them into a more interesting position.

Each day he would get home from work to discover they enacting yet another position from the Kama Sutra. :D

Fun times, fun times.

Was it really over-doing it? I think the real question is productivity. From teh sound of his post, he doesn't have people in his office. It looks more like a close-door cubicle. Being stuck in one of those can be mentally tasking. I'd actually argue that having some personal items to make being there more endurable could actually enhance his performance.

But then there are other people who would be distracted by fun personal items thereby hurting their productivity.

The real problem here is that companies are expected to treat everyone the same while no 2 people are motivated exactly the same way. I think the best thing to do would be to ask him to tone it down and to establish some sort of allowance that everyone can follow. But in that, include performance requirements.

Let the man display his Joes.

I have ten or twelve loose Joes displayed in my office. My co-workers are just fine with it.

It doesn't surprise me that someone complained. Looks cool, but that set up really shouldn't be at work. I sometimes display a custom at work, and people get a kick out of it. Even that is a one day deal- once in a while.

that's too excessive for work, but again it depends on the environment you work in. If you're in an organically structured coprorate environment like Marvel or Blizzard Inc. I'd assume this would be the culture - but for most offices the corporate environment is a bit more conservative and I suspect this guy has violated a few HR policies with his display.

Besides why on earth would I leave my more expensive pieces like my gold head pimp daddy destro on display over the weekend and weeknights for some outside contract cleaning company to "lift"

My department knows about my Joe love. There's a Manager who used to be into it in the 80s and she always sneaks me in her office so that we can check out Joe websites heh. My Director thinks it's querky and yet another dimension I have, but still I doubt I'd ever have my joes on display here at work - I'm too gold for that.

I have some. two 12" AT guys and Mike Powers. Also some miscellaneous 2.5" stuff.

I would never have that much stuff though. It looks like a comic shop. I'd be worried my stuff would be stolen.

I have to say that this was a bit over the top.

That being said, I have displayed customs that I have made as well as those I have received. My Crown Ninja from Phalanxx stayed on my computer for a week. Even tho I work with mostly women, they had no problems with it. They came by and looked at it and remarked that he did a decent job of capturing me without the gut... Some have even asked if I or one of my friends could make customs for thier sons.

I used to keep Comic covers pined behind my office door while I was in the Air Force, and some Joes on that desk, but others had the Hot Rod Mags and model cars... That was a wash!

Yeah, that's way over the top. Having a few figures on your desk is fine, but that's an extension of your Joe-room. Most bosses are fine with a few personal effects, but you shouldn't be turning your work space into your home.

At my last job I had a deal with a Hellboy poster, someone complained about it being "Satanic" so I was told to take it down, I went to Human Resources about it and with a copy of "Right hand of Doom" showed that Hellboy was born a demon but made a coice to be a man, a good man and that I found that very powerfull storytelling and was ingrained into my belief system that we chose who we are and are not born to it.

Surprizingly I won and was able to keep the poster up on the basis that the person was trying to subjegate my ethical belief system. Gotta work the system
