Coming to the collective wisdom of the board again. I'm toying with the idea of hacking off repeaters hat from one of my extra heads for a custom. Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how difficult it might be and what to watch out for.

Thanks!

Its gonna be a [LASER BLAST], so prepare yourself now. I'd suggest using some padded pliers to hold the hat part firmly, so that the teeth of the pliers dont mark the hat.

then, take a hand saw and cut off the ball joint. then take dremel and slowly start grinding away the head slowly and surely paying attention so you keep it even and straight.

whole process should take 10-15 minutes.

Do you own a Razor Saw?

If not go buy one...I got mine, an exacto brand one with 3+ different sized blades at Hobby Town USA for like 10-15 bucks...

They're really quite nice for cutting strait lines through things like heads and arms...other parts too.

If you go the Dremel Rout...be aware that all ARAH joe heads have an air bubble or two inside of them...it'll catch your dremel and toss the head if you're not careful.

Because you're cutting off the Hat you've got a natural line to follow...don't worry about saving much of the Repeater head...it's pretty much useless unless you need the neck ball.

Would it not be easier to use VvV GungHo's removeable ballcap?

Unfortunately, I don't have a one. I'm rather limited in my fodder for customizing. Being in Canada limited what joes I could get my hands on and I came into this hobby rather late. It's a good idea though.

Here ya go. You could also use the hat off a 25A GungHo, which would also be stretchable to fit on your new head.

It's not that bad, especially if you don't care about Repeater's face. I have a ton of Repeater heads, so if you screw up let me know and I'll send you a couple. I,like ZG, use a combo of hobby saw and dremel.

Wow, thanks guys! Just an update. I took a hack saw to Repeaters head last night and got the hat off in about 20 seconds. Got a clean cut off it too. So all I have to do is hollow out the insides. After my innitial W00T! at my success I checked it against Topsides head and I think that it's going to be too small without haveing to round down TS's flat top hair cut. Back to squair one. razzin frazzin big melloned joe.....

Thanks a ton for the inputs though. I'm going to try and hollow out the hat anyways and see how it looks. If it works I'll post it for all to see.

Just another update. I was able to get Repeaters hat dremmeled out (didn't even know I had one until I went digging around in the workshop, let's hear it for forgotten wedding presents!) and it went really well. Same problem though, Topsides mellon is too huge for the hat. But at least I have a cool hat now. Again, thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it! :-D

Those are all baseball hats and such. None of them are the Marine hat that Repeater or Gung-Ho wears.
I tried the V vs V hat on Topside and it don't fit that well without either glueing it or something to keep it on.
