So, sub-set month didn't work out so well.... :whistling:

At any rate, this is a hold over and still a figure that I enjoy...even if my Junkyard is starting to degrade away:

Enjoy!

Awesome as always mike.

Funny thing, when I got my SM mutt years ago (sold him later) He had (what I now realize) an accessory pack version of the helment, yet when I sold it no one tried to call me on it. I didn't even realize the orginal had the old joes.

It's strange how opposite our opinions are on the Maurauders vs Tiger Force. I can understand people disliking Tiger Force because the figures are brightly coloured and have an odd theme. But Slaughter's Maurauders, with baby blue and almost toxic green, are brightly coloured and have no theme. I find the Slaughter's Maurauders gaudy and unnecessary, worst of which is the Sarge himself, and I'm a fan of Slaughter's. Pic any Slaughter's Maurauders figure and you have my least favourite version of that character without exception. Okay, maybe I prefer baby blue vest Mutt to neon orange Mutt v4. Nah, probably on par.

My opinion of the figure aside, I think you really went into the depth this profile needed, covering the character, the concept, and the Brazilian orgins. I'm willing to say that if not for the trouble using Slaughter's name, Hasbro may have revisited this subteam and fixed the colours in the same way they did Python Patrol.

that would've been cool to see, even if they just called them The Marauders...but come to think of it, that could've been a thought going in to their what, urban assault set? the one that had them wearing steel brigade helmets. or at lest i'm thinking that b/c it involved mutt heh.

Excellent read. I wonder what the reasoning was behind the removal of the chest patch could have been. I agree that the Marauders color scheme was much better than either Tiger Force or Python Patrol.

Mike, great read as always.

One minor complaint, that color text is hard to read on that color background. I know you're probably trying to make the page sort of thematic with the character you're reviewing, but sometimes the color combinations make it difficult to see. I had to highlight all the text to be able to read it on this one.

blah what happened to my first response??? :(

short version:

1. Great review, you can't get more obscure than Sgt. Slaughter Marauder Mutt & Junkyard - who talks about them on a daily basis?

2. Mike were you involved in the toy industry in the 80s or are affiliated with someone in the industry? Because you know a helluva lot about 20-year old molds and figure distribution.

3. Sarge is even more unique in Joe mythos because he's also the head of (argueably) another subset - Sgt. Slaughter's Renegades

4. I like the colour scheme of the Marauders but really what was their purpose in Joe mythos beyond selling more figs for Hasbro? TF and PP had their backstories, but I never did understand what the Marauders were supposed to do. Anyone knows?

That was a great review. An obscure character that most don't think twice about. Awesome, and lots of info.

I think they were sloted against the IG's along with BF2.
